Some of those sound like my customers. I'm on a new duty for this Xmas so won't be the regular postman. I'm expected 0 tips.

if someone offers me a tip who I dont like who has been a pain all year with a dog or has small packets all year I tell him to buy a bigger letterbox or a cage for the back of the door with the money instead

I've been in the job 11 years and don't expect a tip,although they are appreciated and nice when you get them.
I do laugh when people are shocked when you tell them that you deliver to 600 houses a day,6 days a week.I think they watch to much Eastenders to be honest.

only 600 I'm shocked as well, I would keep quiet about that before they put more on.

Hahaha we have a revision in a month,and they will be a lot bigger than they are now.I suppose in 6 months time we will be all reminiscing of the 'good ol days'.

I think it very sad that these people have no idea what our job entails. Many seem angry that they are getting post in the afternoon and blame this on "lazy" posties!!! They have no idea do they? They also seem to think all we do is write out 739 cards without knocking? Do they not realise that it is far easier for us to knock and there is no benefit to us whatsoeever in just writing out a card?

Wish someone would make it compulsory for every individual in Britain with a letterbox have to do a round just once in thier lives I am sure it would be a real eye opener for them!

Oh and I must be a very odd person as they all write "why should I tip anyone for doing thier job?" I tip my own postman, the bin men, every cab driver, waiters, pizza delivery people.... I guess I must just be a sucker eh?!

I've been a regular on that website for nearly 9 years, and if it's one thing you can count on when RM is mentioned, is a barrage of abuse about lazy/thieving/militant posties,
at the start, i tried explaining how hard the job is, and how certain changes to the business has affected things, but to no avail,
you are pissing into the wind trying to reason with the people on there.

Those very same people who are supposed to be supporting us on a strike.............come the day, they'll be the ones offering to do our jobs for free.

Someone on that site suggested we shouldn't need tips because we get a wage.................but so do bankers et al and get a fecking huge tip but they call it a bonus

Customers don't seem to realize its them that turn us into assholes, i tried to be really nice to everyone when i first started, but after the way they all treat me it soon passed, with the exception of one or two they do just think of us a lazy and thieving, now I'd rather be an asshole to customers all year around, if it cost me a couple of tips at the end of the year so be it!
