Im a walker but my driving partner is off so I will drive this week but because my partner is off it is on docket this week.
But the DOM in this office expects you to take all the parcels and do one frame which is half walking half driving loops instead of just the driving loops from both frames which of course is much bigger with the walking loops 10-15 minutes longer per loop.
Surely I should be taking the driving loops only?

Are you prepping both if not then staying on one frame would be easier.eastie wrote:Im a walker but my driving partner is off so I will drive this week but because my partner is off it is on docket this week.

However if you are prepping both there is no saving either way and he can make any reasonable request to take you up to your time. If you cant get what they want in time then you need to use the cutting off procedure.

Re: when your partner is off on P/L
In our office, you just do your duty and take your specials and packets - simple!
What is a driving loop? And why did you refer yourself as a walker. Surely the driver also walks and delivers some mail. All our drivers - rurals and town centres (old style driving duties) now deliver mail just like a postie (regular out of the van and using bags/lwt.
The only proviso to the above is if one walk is much larger than the other: if yours is larger then you can cut off or negotiate OT. The same goes for if the manager wants you to do the tracked, specials and larger packets for both rounds.
And you get to have a van to yourself.

The 'driver' loops should be less than the 'walker' loops to allow for delivery of packets while the 'walker' finishes.
Also, the 'driver' duty has extra time built-in for van checks.

Re: when your partner is off on P/L
Hitcher, You do van checks before delivery starts and as i said we all drive. When the delivery starts then drivers and walkers should be the same: more or less. We are all driver/postperson these days and all jobs should be interchangeable except if one partner does not drive at all.
I object to my drivers wanting to bugger off to do packets: we all work as a team except where there is an agreement on a particular day for very large packets that don't go on LWT or branching off to do Specials. I find it is more equitable and time saving than one person shooting off and sometimes the partner has to wait for them or when they finish early they just sit in the van.
I will not allow some wily fox to make me walk long distances whilst they have it easy in a van: I can drive so they can walk, if they want to.
I have had a situation where I agreed with a muppet to do an extra loop so that we can get the big packets/tracked and the odd special out of the way. he came back early and just packed up instead of coming to help. He drove past me and went on to the next stop and I had to walk 8 minutes to catch up. And then same for the next loop... I just told him he can either wait for 5 minutes for me to finish, help or I am off.
Another told me he was cutting off and I told him to finish off the loop he was on and then I will drive him back. he went on to another loop and I gave up waiting for him after 15 minutes. I was back in the office (walked and took at least 15+ minutes when he phone the manager asking for me.
