poundland pedometer

My partner, fed up with me moaning about how far i walk, picked up a cheap Poundland pedometer. Thought I'd give it a go and wondered if anyone else has done the same.

So far i'm clocking up around 31000 steps( about 14 miles at my stride length!!!) a day on my post delivery methods day. Start the count from when I walk in the office and stop it when I leave.

I don't doubt your 31,000 steps however, everytime you move it counts it as a step, so everytime you are moving at your frame is one step, your strides will not be all the same length and will be shorter when walking up to someones door and turning round, so 14 miles is not going to be right I don't think.

I have done my walk with a pedometer attached to my phone, got 18k steps and that was walk only ( including around 2000 real steps up to houses ) and nothing in the office.

I had a pedometer, quite expensive one and was recording 24-28000 steps per day depending on absorbtion at the time. Think my stride was 48 cm However it counts each step and you dont always take a full stride every time.

I ve got a free app on my phone now which uses gps and that displays your finished route on google maps. My round comes in around 10-11 miles without any absorbtion.

You need to get the settings aligned with your stride. I am not mathematical so I went to a posted trail where there is a post (wooden one) every mile and I adjusted it until it was accurate. Then used it on the rounds and found the various walks I do ranging from 7miles for a rural to 9 miles for a town walk.

I find a really good way of checking how far you walk is to do your route on walkjogrun website. It might take you 10-15 mins or so to do your whole route, but I'm a saddo so I did it. I reckon on an average day I walk around 8 miles, on a bad day 10 miles.

Good points, thanks people. I'm curious now thogh so i've invested in a more accurate model and I'll just use it on my delivery and see what the scores on the doors are.
