Clocking in and out???

What are peoples thoughts on clocking in and out?? I have heard many branches in favour, but some are dead against it.
My personal thoughts are get them in tomorrow!

Everything the CWU is trying to do to get members to stop coming in early etc(do the job properly campaign) is not working.

If people had to clock in at 6am and clock out at 2pm it would solve alot of problems, why would some not have a break if they had to clock out at 2pm? why would someone come in early if they had to clock out at 2pm? why would someone rush around like an idiot if they still had to be there to clock out at 2pm? This is surely the way the CWU has to go, this will protect jobs!! Royal mail will not want this as it would mean people having to change attitudes towards the job.
( I thought the business transformation agreement 2010 was going to sort this )

Do you think your branch would support this?

Some will say that one person would come back with cards and clock 10 out at a time and take it in turns, there are ways to get around that with finger print scanners or eye scanners, maybe going a bit far but something has to change to protect the full time jobs we currently hold.

Well someone clocking for someone else will automatically be gross misconduct and a fraudulent act.

I am for clocking in and out = totally. It can even be done through the PDA - everyone will have a dedicated PDA with the ability to clock in and out. And it must be docked at the end of the shift.

People coming in early are the scourge of the job!

It's been discussed loads on here.
It's been discussed by HQ.
It was even mentioned in the foundations for a new delivery model blueprint thingy that formed the basis of the delivery aspects of BT2010.
We'll probably still be discussing it in the retirement home along with monthly pay and banking hours.
I'm not sure who is putting the brakes on it,us or Royal Mail or maybe both.
Personally i have no issues with it...bring it on.

I'm totally for this. Job and knock is a thing of the past but people still come in early, rush around and try to make ten minutes here and there. I'm willing to work my full eight hours everyday (and always have been) and clocking in/out may go some way to stopping the bullying and harassment that so many posties suffer on a daily basis.

I agree, especially as some of my colleagues still act as if job and knock will be here forever, rushing round, doorstepping, signing Recordeds themselves, going home early, bringing bikes and signature cards in the next morning and resenting those of us who take a bit longer to do the job properly.

If their start time was 7am, they could still come in 30 minutes early but not use the clocking in device until 7am.

Early starting could be stopped by the use of the conduct code.

My wife used to work for a large media company.
In order to gain access to the building she had to use her swipe card.
Her swipe card operated as a clocking in and out machine.
She could only swipe in during a 10 minute window 5 minutes either side of her start time or an automatic report was sent to her boss.
Being in the building without swiping in was an automatic conduct issue and virtually unheard of.
It all seemed rather draconian to me at the time but it did work.

i never start early,but clocking in and out on a PDA is a laugh surely you are joking,pda s are a joke from the start of a duty to the end full stop

They can clock in early because their performance is not up to scratch or they want an extra break but they will still have to come back to office/depot clock out - they will soon realise that they are working many hours for nothing. Some will still do that because like I said, they are not as good as they make out or they might want to impress the boss but there will be less need to rush around - hopefully

It would not stop anyone coming in early, but you would thing that if they had to clock back in at their finish they would not need or want to come in early. As long they are finishing at their finish time, if there are foolish enough to come in early we could just laugh at them!!!! But I honestly think if they had to clock out at their finish time they would cease coming in early immediately.

Motion to conference anyone? Please!

Royal Mail won't stop people coming in early because they know people would be cutting or claiming overtime daily. No chance of clocking in and out getting introduced.

I very much doubt RM would want clocking in/out. It was cost them a fortune in O/T, all those 5/10 mins add up. Personally I'm all for it, the sooner the better.
