Re-picks.....

Post by postypie »

seems to be the in word at our office at the moment, but what i want to know if there is a vote on a re-peck what % of any voting would be needed to get the ball rolling...the obvious thing would be say 51% as opposed to 49% against, but a mate of mine today at work said you only need a small % of any vote to trigger a re-pick!?

I don't think you can vote for a re-sign :hmmmm A full re-sign is normally only given in instances of 'major change' in the unit, ie as part of a full revision.

We had a re-pick in our office because as walks became vacant they weren't advertised, it ended up with a lot of the walks just being covered, the agreement was it had to be a majority in favour of the re-pick

If a repick is triggered under the way forward agreement it has to go ahead, that's the rules.
Otherwise you could have reserves spending 20 years as a reserve and part-timers not being given the chance to progress to full-time just because some lazy duty holders are comfy where they are.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

So must 'repick' procedures following "major change" be in accordance with the Way Forward agreement of 2000, and in particular section 16 thereof ?

Yes.
The delivery rep's support pack for BT2010 states...
The delivery revisions process will produce a new duty set with new routes, methods and equipment. The Way Forward Agreement (Appendix 2) explains how and when a re-pick of duties should be used (resourcing jobs during major change).
And also states in the repick guidance.
Where there is significant impact to content or attendance times to one third of jobs in the unit, or more, re-picks should comply with The Way Forward Agreement: Section 16 “Resourcing jobs during major change”.
It's funny how some reps are ready to hit the gate when Royal Mail break an agreement but don't mind ignoring one themselves when it suits them or their mates.

Thanks Fishtank.
So some reps don't mind ignoring an agreement themselves when it suits them or their mates, maybe ignoring "16.4 Employees whose jobs remain unaffected by the major change will retain them" if former town cycle duty holders don't want to van share, preferring the previously less popular rural duties held by those with less seniority, and seeking to include ALL duties, including 'unaffected' rural ones, in the repick.
What would you advise if such a situation arose ?

If the job hasn't changed it doesn't go into the repick however beware change can mean change to attendance times as well as duty content.
If the rep is trying to throw completely unaffected duties into the pot just because he fancies one,ask him/her to put their reasons for doing so in writing and contact your branch.
