Change in hours for Xmas

I was given a letter stating my hours will change from the 4th of December to 2pm to 8pm the problem I have is my wife works these hours and I have children and can't afford child care but my manager said they can't change these hours and that's why I have six weeks notice to make arrangements for the change in hours and that Cwu has backed this change can I do anything.

That's unusual giving you specific hours. My contract is just hours designated by the manager. Basically they've shot themselves in the foot giving you set hours because if they needed you to do a morning shift you could refuse. They'd have to change your hours again. As for being able to do anything im really not sure. I wouldn't think so. What the hell would you be doing until 8pm??

Yes indeed. It's time again for packets in the dark. Just when packet volumes go through the roof, suddenly you have to do them in darkness. Deliveries to 8pm as well. Good old christmas.

I understand this but I have commitments to my children to and can't work the hours they want me to I even offered to work till six and come in early but I'm told we don't have the vans
