Hours on the increase?

Have been told by a colleague that part-timers will be having their hours increased from 20-24 to 32 come next April when the van share kicks in next April. Same colleague said that it's already taken effect at Dudley.
Any more news about this folks? I work within the West Midlands.

i also work in wv/dy sector and our office is due about march to receive delivery methods,but know one has seen any planners,received any survey forms,or spoke about changes ,,in my experience no 2 offices ever land the same deal ,hope you get what you want

I was on 25 and when we had the revision i got made up to 33.5 and i'm next in line for full time, but it depends on senority too, you could end up staying on the same hours and being made to work in a different office.

we have no-one below 32 hours in our DO, however we are about to have a revision. Could this mean hours might get dropped ?

No. They can't force you to accept a drop in hours.

This is all very interesting because we have a revision coming in soon also. As said above, they cannot make you accept a drop in hours, but what about if you want to remain on your current hours and they try to make you have more?

If you want to stay on your currrent contracted hours you can but........
If your current contract is completely incompatible with the new duty structure, it might be that they can accomodate you on your current contract but in a different office.

The agreement says

Royal Mail has explored various resourcing models for operations in a
mechanised environment and in conjunction with the CWU has concluded that
the best model is a flexible workforce, predominantly full time supported by part
time employees. The mix of full time and part time is planned to be around
three quarters full time and one quarter part time by 2013. The exact ratio will
vary locally depending on the current local mix, needs and employee preferences.
Full time employees will retain full time status unless they volunteer to move to
part time hours. Part time employees will be entitled to retain their existing
contractual hours if they wish.

So they can't, but clash does point out the down side with a dose of reality.

I was recruited on a 25 hr contract and have continued on this basis despite van sharing coming in several months ago ... having said that, it's very rare that I work less than 32 hrs in any given week ... the DOM told me this week we would be recruiting again shortly when 2 or 3 retirees leave after Christmas and all new recruits would also not be offered any more than the 25 hr basic ... seems it's the way forward
