Is it Job & Finish or work your hours?

Seen it all today in my office a manager waits till overtime posties come back from their walks and pays a guy 2 hours for doing a bit extra of a walk, but saying that 8 posties went home a hour before their time when I questioned this some say its job and finish, some say you have to work your hours I'm confused? why pay out 2 hours extra then let 8 hours go home? should he not have got a few of them and let them take a bit out each, that's what I call savings. Hope Moya is reading this..

Interesting that its still happening in some offices but at the same time it probably doesnt surprise me.

The way i see things is if their is no work for you when you return to the office then in effect its job and finish even though J&F has disappeared. On the other hand if their is still work to be done and you come back an hour before your time you should be working till your time.

Management supposedly have the tools to calculate how long your delivery will take you judging on the traffic that comes in the morning. So if their is a delivery that needs covered it will probably be divided within the office (lapsing).

There was lots of packets that has been in the office for days last week yet management decide to let posties go home early and they all have vans now so therefore there is no excuse why they should not have been sent out with a handful.

Far easier to bully the people on family friendly or care issues or people who work to their time or won't do overtime whilst turning a blind eye to the turds who finish 2 hours early.

Just because someone has a different viewpoint or political position to you, it does not mean that they are a 'Manager' or a 'Union fanatic', any posts making such assumptions or generalisations will be pulled or amended and the poster warned. If someone has a different position to you please respect their right to have differing views, and enjoy yourself when picking holes in their position in a constructive way. We would much rather have a long winded well thought out argument, picking out weak points in someone's position, than have a thread full of 1 line insults.

If it was your business would you pay out OT and let others go home early?
Would you f**k.You would be bankrupt inside 6 months.
Wouldn't you look to cut staff and re-align workload?
Of course you would.

It shows just how spineless and out of their depth some of these Mickey Mouse managers really are.
They get the cutting staff bit but not the re-aligning bit so some duties cut off and others finish early and the business bleeds money paying OT for the cut offs.
You couldn't make it up really.

It won't last forever,nothing ever does and RM are slowly coming around to the fact that their managers aren't really up to the task.
Privatisation,if and when it comes will bring wholesale changes to the management structure,if i was a manager i would think it would be best to make plans now or the shock is going to be too much for some people.

you normally find the staff on overtime are the duties that finish early,or start early, use cars,and run about like lunatics

You must be a DOM or a plant ! Probably the vegetable sort ! Every office has one and the managers would love a lot more.

No I'm not a DOM or a plant Tommy rep are you a union rep? the managers are picking and choosing in my office, overtime postie and runners are left alone they won't disturb them but walks that get battered everyday they don't want to know, managers stood more or less over you watching you like a hawk because I come in at the right time and take my whole break, we supposed to all start at the same time, break at the same time, finish at the same time, and get the same money at the end of the week, 5 hours a week some time 6 is a lot for managers to overlook. I take it the negative replies on here are either runners themselves, or do ghosting overtime or come in very early to complete and are petrified of standing up for themselves in a work place, nuff said.
