Part time hours on full time rounds
As a part-timer on 32.5hrs in an office of only full time frames I feel I'm being screwed! I van share with full timers doing the same work as they do apart from the sorting. In fact some of them don't do that either and yet I'm still expected to do d2d and all the other crap. So I'm up to 6.5hrs down on them. In previous offices I've worked there have been dedicated part time 32.5hr duties. Where do I stand?
What have I done to deserve this?

You must be starting later or finishing earlier than them?

Re: Part time hours on full time rounds
Yes both. So I'm always behind the others which does nothing for my stress levels. I refuse to be bullied into starting early. I may get a bit back with o/t but trying to fit in d2d prep is near impossible.ebbzie wrote:You must be starting later or finishing earlier than them?

You should come in and the walk you are doing should be prepped that also includes D2D in fact the most you should do is the Redi's and pack your bags to go,if that is not happening then make it the managers problem not your own, don't allow other postie's to brow beat you,try not to get stressed about it,do the best you can.Silly Sarah wrote:As a part-timer on 32.5hrs in an office of only full time frames I feel I'm being screwed! how many hours per week are you actually having to work? sorry its really going to come down to if you can do your duty in its time even if your having to do the d2d your not really going to have much of a leg to stand on, the dom can ask you to do any type of work to fill up your 32.5 hours, any grievance would more than likely fail as it would really come down to can you complete the alloted work in the allotted time, if its a yes then your not getting an unfair amount of work unfortunately

Re: Part time hours on full time rounds
That is total rubbish. What staff are expected to do in their hours will vary from office to office, depending largely on the length of delivery span used. Expecting someone on 32.5hrs to get all their mail preped for them is ridiculous. I can't think there is any office where all IPS and prep can be done in 1.3hrs.bandit650 wrote: You should come in and the walk you are doing should be prepped that also includes D2D in fact the most you should do is the Redi's and pack your bags to go,if that is not happening then make it the managers problem not your own, don't allow other postie's to brow beat you,try not to get stressed about it,do the best you can.

Re: Part time hours on full time rounds
It's not rubbish what should happen is that someone should be prepping the delivery,if some lazy good for nout manager ain't making it happen then managers reap what they sow but no part time member of staff should feel stressed, the whole idea is that they bought part time duty's in and the idea behind it is that a full time member of staff should be prepping the delivery right up to the point where the part time member of staff comes in to finish the odds and ends off then pack and go,that is why full time staff ended up being taken of duty's and pushed elsewhere, according to the managers at the top we have less mail to sort now so it don't take long, sorry rubbish it ain't that is what the whole kit and shaboddle is based on,sorry to disappoint.PhilthyPhil wrote:That is total rubbish. Re: Part time hours on full time rounds
I usually go over my finish time wed, thur, fri and probably claim up to the 3hrs per wk. If I don't get my d2d done by tuesday then I've no chance.zx135 wrote:Silly Sarah wrote:As a part-timer on 32.5hrs in an office of only full time frames I feel I'm being screwed! Re: Part time hours on full time rounds
Maybe that is how it works in your office, but as I said not all offices are the same. For example in my office most PT are on 30 hours and start two hours later than FT (with same finish time). When the PT come in the FT are still on the IPS or just finishing it off. Why would the frames be preped for the PT when the FT still have an empty frame? If someone on 32.5hrs had their frame fully preped when they come in they would have 6 hrs for baging up and delivery, which is not right. Bear in mind that for a 5 day week FT would only have on average 1hr 8 mins more per day.bandit650 wrote:It's not rubbish what should happen is that someone should be prepping the delivery,if some lazy good for nout manager ain't making it happen then managers reap what they sow but no part time member of staff should feel stressed, the whole idea is that they bought part time duty's in and the idea behind it is that a full time member of staff should be prepping the delivery right up to the point where the part time member of staff comes in to finish the odds and ends off then pack and go,that is why full time staff ended up being taken of duty's and pushed elsewhere, according to the managers at the top we have less mail to sort now so it don't take long, sorry rubbish it ain't that is what the whole kit and shaboddle is based on,sorry to disappoint.

Re: Part time hours on full time rounds
I am a bit confused about a 32.5 or FT duty?
If you are in P&L and van sharing then the finish time should be the same - there is no other way.
However, from my experience, the difference should be IPS or a Full Timer prepping for a 24 or 27 hour postie. I suppose there should be enough time to prep your walk (+D2D) within the 32.5 hours. You are only 6.5 hours down on the FTimer.
Having said the above, we do have duties that are larger than others some are HCT rounds and usually done by FT staff but the rest is due planning problems or impossibility of getting all round the same delivery time/span.

Re: Part time hours on full time rounds
I'm on a full time round yet only on a 24hour contract. V.often come in and no prep is done, I do all my d2ds and redirections etc. Claim an hour overtime everyday so still only get 30hrs a week on a fulltime round. Bit of a swizz

Re: Part time hours on full time rounds
With 32 hours the postman should be able to put his own d2ds. Only if his walk is fully prepped. If hes coming and have to prep some of his own walk when the prepper is just putting in mail on his own walk mainly, to me this is a no no. But like most offices I wonder if lapsing is the order of the day.
