In my office;

Why is overtime allocated on a seniority basis?

And why is holiday allocated in the same way?

The reason i ask... is that i have struggled to get hols.. and have never been offered OT

Your DOM must have plenty of time to go round with the list asking each person in seniority ? All ours does is turn the radio down and ask if any one wants to do overtime ?

i am working for last one year and my dom asked me everyday for a overtime, before when i come in the office first i ask about overtime now he knows he ask me mostly everyday for a half walk.

It goes to show how very different things are in different offices.

There are some offices where it is almost impossible for get staff to do OT (not on delivery anyway), and others where it is based on seniority (apparently an office where many are doing OT). Perhaps,the OP is in a big big office.

The funny thing is that, some posters here (usually senior and/or FT) thinks the people (usually PT) that do OT are scummy and taking jobs away...

We are so short-staffed in my office that sometimes we have to get post-persons from other offices. Its a combination of managers filling vacancies quickly and high absence rate. The manager tries to get it booked ahead of time but things change during the week, that they come begging for people to do rows, loops, half or full walks. I never ask but tends to get enough to try to get a decent enough wage at the end of the week. With desperation, managers tends to be more generous

OT allocated on seniority? That is novel! But not surprising in that when it comes to the crunch people pull the seniority card.

o/t should be issued on an aggregate basis. when selecting s/a's seniority will come into play if 2 individuals s/a aggregate is the same. annual leave is picked on seniority one year and juniority the next. the way forward agreement will guide you through all these issues.

In our office....the CWU rep and his mates get the cream of any ot(friends and family club)...whatever is left over goes to plebs like me and a few other less desirables!

no i cannot beleave your cwu rep is on the fiddle with his mates this type of thing dont go on anymore.
next you will be saying your rep is always in the office having cut-back chats and making more savings.
roll on unoffical walk-outs its just around the corner.

I think the old boys network having the cream of OT still persist. Most of that type of OT does not involve routine delivery - such like coming in early to open up the office, closing the office, coming in to prep flats, delivering packets and collecting on sundays - xmas time. And friends of managers and Reps naming the price or over charging on OT.
