Absorption Part Timer

Hi Guys,

Will be posting lots of questions as I'm new to the Postie world. I have been working a couple of months on a 3 month rolling contract which is 8 hours a week on Saturdays.

Pretty much every week I get put on walks with absorption of 50 extra drops and routinely I'm shifted from walks without absorption onto walks with it. I just want to clarify whether I should be doing this or not?

Also I don't feel comfortable using my own car but they don't seem to be booking me for the driving test.

And at the induction session we were provided with a complete list that the coach was supposed to go through but never bothered doing so. I was sent out on a walk the next day of starting and didn't even know how to do recorded deliveries. I still don't feel I have had proper induction. I also wanted to meet the union rep and join but haven't had the opportunity. How much does the union cost and how do i sign up as I feel I need some support.

You are contracted to work 8 hours. If you are able to complete the lapsing within your duty hours then you are expected to do so. If you cannot then you can either cut off at your finish time or if you are happy to do overtime in order to complete then this is fine also. If you intend cutting off, you must make your manager aware of this before you leave the depot, and he should provide you with instructions on what to do. If you are likely to need overtime to complete, it is also advisable to get his/her clearance on this, again before you leave depot. It is recommended that you have a witness to whatever you discuss with the manager.
Using your car for delivery is an absolute no.no. It is for Royal Mail to provide you with the recommended method of delivery, whether this is pre or post delivery method change. They will not support you if you are stopped by the police with Royal Mail products/equipment in your vehicle, and your insurance company will not cover you.
