Following park and loop revision 5 hours sounds reasonable. Our office had walks planned at 5 taking 6 on quiet days and nearly 7 on busy days. Suffice to say we didnt keep that up long and started working to time. How equal are the deliveries though? Ours are way out with some rounds shorter than before and others impossible.
With P&L, your are taking the oversized packets and tracked mail... Sometimes, you have to shoot off in other direction to get specials done before 1.00pm. Some oversized packets will have to be done using the van and taking trolleys in and out, using the trolleys and general organisation makes the job longer.
On top of the above, we are entering winter, pre-xmas and there is even more increase in Recorded signed for mail.

Don't stress yourself about wether or not you are walking too fast or too slow,go at a pace you can maintain for 5 or so hours a day and remember you will be doing this 5 days a week for a long time, your health is more important than there figures, book the overtime or cut off the choice is yours. But don't start getting doubts about your performance as this is exactly what management want, take care and don't worry.

thanks for your replies so far . but i reaaly would like to put some figures to walk times and distances.((((see original message))) the fact that my partner THINKS other walks in the office are different is very subjective.. I know our first walk takes about 4000 paces longer(2000 each) than the second one. my partner is more experienced than me and he is convinced his// our speed is okay but i have my doubts..we alway??s seem to be last out and last back with arguments about overtime.. thanks again

Is there a standard SECONDS PER DROP
They should have told you what your delivery span was? Did you not get a 318 type document with all the given times for the various functions throughout the day?
we are on shared vans. one of the shared vans regularly does not finish delivery and manager or phg has to go out. you work to your time and do not get stressed. . all our shared vans are 4-41/2 hours. we do not get out on delivery even on quiet days until around 930am then add on 40 min relief and there you have it. at least on cannot finsh each day as the walk is too long and manager asks what is the solution and I say more staff and he says that is not a solution , eh!!?
if you want to know how far you walk then use a garmin watch . you can download the info to you computer. e.g if your walk is on average 8 miles a day then over a year , taking out out leave and b/h ( approx 6 weeks) }= 1840 miles . footwear only lasts a maximum of 400 miles given a normal gait for biomechanical efficiency. 5 pairs of trainers are needed !! for health reasons ask for the footwear . it's a reasonable request . or make the delivery shorter . slow down become more economical. i.e less sick . any more info needed just ask .

Walks should be tailored to fit you, not the other way around.
I used a free app on my phone "Mapmy walk" you can even connect the heart monitor to work out which bits are "Stressfully" . Stopping and starting each loop !!! gives a reflection on how much time your are standing at a front door!!! or if the loops are not balanced!!!

There's absolutely no useful walk information in ours.
Record mine every day. A good steady pace is 24 minute miles, 20 if I really put my foot down. I'm not walking 'door to door' which increases the average speed.
