Later start and finish times...

Today there was a rumour flying about that our start and finish times would change. apparantly starting an hour later and finishing an hour later (to save money apparantly, how that works I dont know). not the end of the world being only an hour but this did get me thinking.

say i was on a late turn? that would mean we would lose an hour to get our duty thats split between us on the late turn done, to get the packets done and to clear up any cut offs and incomplete lapsing before we go out for our collections. if weve lost an hour there is no way we would complete our collection before our 6.30 finish time. we just about squeeze it in now. and i cant see final collections times being an hour later.

as the late turn is overtime on top of my duty i would not be prepared to work beyond 6.30.

Eventually as always happens in RM we will be back to 4.30am to 5am starts and finish at 1pm. Things always seem to go round in a huge circle working for RM and they eventually realise the way we used to do it was better. Cant see the problem in telling the public that just 1 monday you wont get any mail and then from the tuesday we will deliver like in the old days from 7am ish. So you finish you round at say 11.30am then you come back to office and sort/prep all mail for the following day so its ready for delivering the following day. In essence the whole job is turned around, you deliver mail as soon as you go in then sort/prep mail when you get back.

not necessarily we have hybrid duties that start at 9.05 and finish at 18.15 they do a p&l with their partner then a collection is in their duty time - the other P&L partner preps their walk for them and the rest of the section have to take over the sorting to accomodate - so not so far fetched really and overtime on collections has gone down to oonly about a third of what it was because of these duties

so don't think it won't happen

All our collections have been taken off scheduled attendance and now make up 2 duties, except Saturday, that's a lot of money saved right there.

Saturday's will be binned soon to save a huge amount of cash, and don't think the union will stop it this time, it will come.

thats all well and good but if they mess about too much ill just stick to my contracted 25 hours...let them decide where my 5 hours a day go...on a collection or on a duty...wont be doing any overtime if it effects my family life too much...so that 9.05 to 18.15 you mention would actually become 9.05 to 14.05 or 13.15 to 18.15 as i wont do overtime.
