tomorrow will be interesting to say the least…

apparently a bundle of mail was found on a bin somewhere and posted in a postbox in the area i've worked today. i don't recall leaving any, so it may not be me, but who knows; it was the first time i'd done that walk, and my mind was probably more on the important interview later in the day, than on the task in hand. it might be utter bollocks (mate of a bloke off sick found it, and said bloke off sick texted the dom about it), or the other chap's fault or whatever. they'll be checking the collections and no doubt reporting back on their findings tomorrow…

so, anyway, important interview subsequently attended, and I'm starting a new job next week , so i'm handing in notice and giving one week as per contract (not that they have a signed copy of that anyway). I'm keen to leave on good terms, but any f***ing about over this alleged unposted mail and i'm out of there. is it worth disciplining someone that's serving notice anyway? I'm guessing that it will depend upon what causes the management the least work; it's probably sweep-under-the-carpetable enough, in the circumstances. I once worked for a pizza company where I had given notice and the 'manager' started trying to throw her weight around over a trivial matter, at which point i removed all uniform (a cap and a polo shirt) and quit with a dignified "good night", so i have form in that area

i have no recollection of losing any mail (you think you'd notice having to walk half a block to start the next bundle), and i certainly would not entertain dumping mail anywhere, but I can't help thinking that telling the dom that i needed to finish on time (and the minion manager that i couldn't do overtime today) will have them adding two and two and making five and a half. i reckon that if i resign first, it will be a non-issue, unless it's the other chap on with me wot dun it…

If what you say is true they'll be hard pushed to prove wilful delay, at best unexcused delay which is less serious. Think it's more likely to be your partner or another delivery. You would, as you said, normally notice a gap. That's a good sign.

Wilfull delay I believe is a criminal offence.

what makes me curious is why someone felt the need to tell the dom…

once the mail's in the box, what they can prove i really don't know, other than the fact that franked mail has turned up in a collection… anyway if i'm leaving anyway, and they're short staffed as it is, i can't see the dom having a motive for making a fuss if it turns out to be my fault, as it would be a good old fashioned f**k-up, not wilful delay.

firstlyare youin the union? Secondly Deny everything and this should be forgotten about or the worse will be a suspension and since your leave then nothing can happen. It is a lot of hassle for managers to suspend and dismiss as people will need to write statements, paperwork filled in etc etc... overtime to cover duties that week. the list goes on.

surely if its true and someone did find a bundle, they can check the date stamp on the letters to see who was working that day on that round

It might have been a bundle of dead letters that someone who had moved into a new flat has bundled up and thrown away.
Someone else has picked them up and not knowing what they are put them in a post box.

all a bit of a dam squibb so far. dom apparently wanted to see me this morning, but was tied up with wtl so i didn't get to see him. handed in resignation to other manager, who looked surprised.

seems it may have been me that made an arse, only 8 letters or so and, in fairness, as i said to the manager, my mind probably was on other things, and i just apologised for making the mistake.

i can't see the dom making too much of a fuss now tbh, as it's not a customer complaint…
