repick question

hi on leave this week, due office repick this friday 21 duties in total i am no 8 on the list not due back at work until next wednesday,does the repick stop at no 7 until i get back to work next wednesday.then when ipick will it carry on etc.

If your office isn't bothering to use the correct system of filling in a form with your preferences in order to speed up the process due to days off and holidays then yes they will have to wait.

During the peak holiday summer months I'd strongly suggest that you utilise a system of first second and third choices on a piece of paper which should take care of many picks through absence.

(As you are number 8 on the list, even with no such system in place, you could just write your top 8 in order of preference on a piece of paper and hand it to your IR Rep, they'll do the rest.)

No, they will call and ask you over the phone.

I think its kind of ironic how it appears to be okay for them to phone you when you're day off, sick or on leave about a repick but harassment for any other reason!

Tell them to do it using the approved method and not to bother contacting you whilst you're off.

Members shouldn't be harassed into picking while they are on their holibobs.
The repick can wait,it will grind to a halt anyway when it gets to that indecisive bloke...every office has one.

Before going on holiday you could indicate whether it would be acceptable to you to be phoned regarding the repick.
It might be that you can't get a very good reception at Macchu Picchu......
It would be crap if you came back to the wrong duty because they couldn't quite hear what you said.

My gaffer texted me while I was on my hols in Spain when it was my turn to pick.

One too many Sangria's and you've accidentally picked the duty from hell.

thanks for the info folks will be at the olympics in london till tuesday with my phone SWITCHED OFF ,NO CALLS FROM MANAGEMENT/REPS WHEN IM OFF .shall go into work next wednesday morning ponder a few moments and choose a duty simple really.surely thats not asking to much.

I thought all duties should be the same (more or less)... NOT!!!

I am not sure using choice preferences of just 3 will work that well for someone about midway in seniority unless most people pick their old duties and/or the picks are more or less obvious leaving just a few to pick from.

I know most in my office will pick their old walk but the drivers will have to come in and some walks have disappeared, so that will put spanners in the work. I am interested how folks will feel if someone picks their currrent 'good' and preferred round after many years on the round and having been involved in the planning

On our last re-pick it stopped every time it came to someone on their day off and while people thought about it over the weekend. I don't think that was too much to ask. Especially when you're lined up to sign for a particular duty and the guy in front goes for it! We had some REAL surprises with "Old & Bold" (who we thought would grab their old duties) jumping onto van shares.....and some Posties actually Reducing their hours!

It had more to do with which duties still had the early starts, and which ones had Collections tagged onto the end of them! No surprise though that the PTers got crapped on....if they wanted to increase their contracts they had to pick up the late start/late finish duties. The usual "Mafia" were happy because they'd had most of the input into the planning....and they had enough seniority to get a decent duty.

Waiting for someone to return from holls to continue with the repick would be bad enough,what about a rep that's totally disregarded a colleague on long term illness.
