Any keen gardeners out there ?

There is a bit of grass that I and a generation worth of posties have walked accross on someones front garden. the owners cut the grass last week (inbetween the wet spells ) and the surrounding grass had all brown bits in and looked a bit straggaly, while the bit that had been walked on was lush and green.

I'm no expert but I would of thought the opposite, that the walked on bit would be knackered and the rest would be fine.

How does that work then ?

maybe the constant traffic has favored a tougher grass to grow on the walked on area?

New growth is always more lush. Not long strimmed the wilder part of my allotment and the first flush of new growth that has sprung up in the intervening days puts the rest to shame.

I've always been partial to a well trimmed bush, so imagine my surprise when I received an almighty smack in the mouth for having the audacity to ask this particular, tidy-piece, on my walk if I could mow her lawn?
