Thank you so much for telling it exactly how it sadly is !
It sounds so straight to the point I feel like your from my office !!! Thought it was only me that has noticed this but thankfully I'm not the only one who is feeling this ! The anxiety stems from such a sudden and drastic change of role in job - no bikes , trollies , unmanageable sized rounds ( people moan but act the big man and run round !) spoken to badly etc etc from doms - any simple mistake that used to be just overlooked or warned about no results in a conduct code ! So sadly the job is totally different to the one we had - but don't worry all the savings at hard working posties expense and tolls on health have gone on bonus culture and to overpaid dims - another contribution to why we are in a global economic mess - the pay gap from low to high is just far too big !

Sounds like my office. Deliveries aren't on WCM in my office yet but the MC upstairs is. What's really getting on my wick atm tho is the way processing have got everything nice n tidy upstairs and everything has it's place. Yet when they haven't got room for something they shove it downstairs and into the delivery office. Yorks of sacks, yorks nested sleeves, yorkes nested, yorkes of boxes etc etc... They basically use our delivery office as a dump.

Do they ? It seems like loose loose to me. By my reckoning, you need a reasonably happy work force to get the best/most out of them. Seems to be a lot of shortsightedness by both parties. Perhaps RM are shortsighted coz they know they only have a short time left before privatisation and then it is all someone elses concern.

As a fairly newbee can someone tell me what WCM and MC are?

It seems to me these days that management see having a happy work place as a fail. If the workforce are unhappy = Result!

I wouldn't expect some at our depot to even acknowledge my existence if I remain there for another 5 years....strange culture.

'World Class Mail' and 'Mail Centre' I guess. The overall impression is 'divide and rule', but we only have ourselves to blame, too many on the shop floor with an 'alright jack' attitude meaning the work unit as a whole suffers at their hands. A common problem in this day and age wherever you work.

I too recognise the change in attitude amongst us . It is sad, and will only get worse.

That sounds just like our office, were out in the sticks, and a small office. People have come to our office thinking that it will be all nicey nicey, everyone will be friends and they have thoughts that we all go drinking together organising golfing or bowling trips since there is less than 20 of us. How wrong can they be, everyone has a gripe or hates someone else. There is a childish mentality in there that no matter how much you try you get brought down to that level at times. Its a "every man for themselves" attitude. A lot of people have joined and left us coz of this, shocked at how it is like this. I thought it was just our office but not really suprised that its others as well. What a shame.

I have worked at several offices and it's more or less the same in each one...you have the friends and family groups who are well in with the gaffers,get the cream of the overtime,and are happy to sh..it of anyone who isn't in their group.and you always have the moaners...posties who have been there years..been there,done it,seen it all,but who do nothing to change things..just moan even more to other senior moaners....and then we come to the 'headless chicken division' you know..the guys who run around all day working all the hours god send..covering anything that is going and can be seen usually coming in up to an hour each day early so they can throw their overtime out...these guys usually are too busy to talk to anyone... regular posties who choose not to come in on their 8 hour duty for 6 hours pay..these duties are always covered by the headless chicken brigade who often use their cars too to do their job...oh and the new starters...i feel for them..as virtually nobody talks to them...they receive the minimal of training...then sent out on the worst duties going... i have seen girls cry,chaps give up after a few days in the job...many don't know how to claim overtime..when they should have their meal breaks(or even the fact they are entitled to them)..their bags are usually bulging with mail and packets which the drivers should take,but don't cos this new starter is as green as Kermit the frog...everyone shi.ts on everyone else...dog eat dog..i remember when i first started we all used to meet up for a drink after work (at least 10 of us each day)..have a few jars...talk about our day at work..often we would invite new starters out for a drink and give them some advice/help about the job...most customers were happy..they got their mail early..and even a second delivery..yes it's not the fun place it used to be for sure... a lot of office banter has gone too as folk are scared of upsetting someone and ending up being sacked...when i first started there used to be a good crack in my office...lots of laughs..job always got done though..people were happy...new starters were given help...pay wasn't much but enough to pay bills and pay for a few beers with your mates after work...we even had postie football and cricket teams..often managers would also play in these teams too...now when i walk through the doors at work..silence in the thing that hits me first..the lack of atmosphere....i get the impression folk just want to do their bit, keep their heads down,avoid talking to others,and get home fast...

I often think Panorama would have a good program looking into the "workings behind Royal Mail". I bet the customers wouldn't believe half the stuff that goes on. If they could get a researcher to get a job at one of the offices it would be great - I've seen them do that sort of thing before.

Agree totally. Even in my 4 years with RM i see the changes/problems
