RM Job importance

Post by CORTINA »

Are RM workers important to our society.....

If yes ..then at what scale of salary is fair.... and is current salary fair now... many of us are on less than the average basic wage of around 24k a year.

In my local Barclays bank recently it was not busy at the time, and the counter staff were talking about their CEO Bob Diamonds salary of £4 million..... They said they had worked it out, that they would have to work 50 YEARS at current rates to earn what Bob Diamond earns in 3 months... and all they work for the same company.

So what reflection on our society of morallity and fairness does this example tell us... of Barclays CEO.
And no doubt he could be on a tax avoidance scheme as well...... And now he could be up for criminal charges.
Charges he will probably not face because up to now Bankers have been seen to be a force above the law, as only one banker.... Fred Goodwin.. has lost his knighthood that i can recall from all the finanacial crisis banks have created in the uk since 2007.

The whole world is in a volitile mode.... and remember we are still in a recession and government debt is still growing, unemployment is still high and shops are closing around the country...many under 20s leaving education have little prospects with high unemployment in their age group......and yet some are still earning millions....

So is Bob Diamond more important than a postie or how many posties on say 20k are needed to equal his £4 million annual salary
answer...200 posties...

What a crazy world we live in...?

Is it being suggested that staff should be on the same wage as the MD as they work for the same company...

Is it being suggested that your average postie could run a bank, not in a glib "we couldn't do any worse than them" way but actually go in and run it from day 1.c  I would suggest that with 3 days training and a good pair of shoes that an MD of a bank could make a half descent crack at being a postie.

I don't see the comparison between someones salary and how many hours someone else has to work to get the same money when they are doing a different job.

I've been a postman for only one year but I am entitled to say that there are a lot worse jobs out there that get CONSIDERABLY less money than we do.

Having said all that, the argument should be about if the "Gentlemen" in charge of the banks should be earning the sums that they do, for which my two penneth would be a NO

I do believe that our salary is fair..... it could be better of course, but I believe its fair. There are folks who work less hours in less stressful jobs and get paid more but the reverse is also true.

"So is Bob Diamond more important than a postie or how many posties on say 20k are needed to equal his £4 million annual salary"

To the first part - NO
To the second - irrelevant

How many kitchen porters who do 90 - 110 hours per week for a salary equivalent to less than £3.98 ph are needed to equal our salary..... I cant work it out ..... if I could work it out, I'd be running a bank.

The top lady running RM is earning around 2,500% more than a average postie on 20k.... with around 500k salary

Bob Diamond is earning 16,000% more than barclays counter staff ... with 4 million salary ...

The question is ..... at what point is a CEO salary compared to the staff below them, is deemed excessive...

If you think the 2 examples above are Excessive ...... then there is a problem of the Greed factor discriminating against the lower paid..... in the same company.

Most posties are on P.A.Y.E. and leagly bound to pay tax required at source..... high earners have a tax requirement to pay......but they also have been given legal options to avoid much of their tax that is leaglly payable....

How can you have a system that a UK government says that you ALL must pay tax... and then the same government can say to one section of our society ... but if you do this and that ...you do not have to pay so much tax..like the others have to....?

I would be suprised is anyone would except that to be a fair way of income tax collection....

That said why has it been excepted as exceptable by so many........inclunding the trade union movement and TUC. It is questionable as to it being discrimination issue, as an enforced tax liability on one majoritiy sector ....is not enforced the same way on another minority sector....

It is amazing how the public and TUC etc have allowed this unjustified Greed to be excepted and happily pay more tax pro rata on their income than others. and the people with some power do not even bother the challenge this issue and change things.

I don't see why he couldn't do a posties job aslong as he's not physically disabled.

On the other hand i have to doubt weather 200 posties could do his job how many have a working understanding of multinational banks.....very few i guess.

On what grounds could 200 posties do his job??? I for one consider myself quite clever, but I could not step in and run a bank, I did however step straight in to being a postman albeit, learning all the time as we all do.

CORTINA - With your second post I agree with the sentiment, and tax avoident people at all levels from CEO's to scroats who are claiming benifits that are fraudulant, should be locked in the tower for theft from the rest of us, but I really don't see the comparison between what an employee gets and what a manager/ceo gets.

There is no comparison between what the ceo and the employee do for a living, they work for the same company but they might as well not do, for the diffence in roles between a bank teller and the ceo or the postie and the ceo are not comparable.

When people go for an interview they are told what THEIR job role will be and what THEIR wage will be, if thet don't like either they dont have to take the job, if they like the terms, then they take the job, to then start looking at what other people are being paid around them for doing DIFFERENT jobs is stupid.

Communism and the idea of everyone on a level playing field died a lingering death a long time ago and it can be argued that capitalism is going the same way, but it is right that the people at the top get paid more than the people at the bottom. The people at the top should be held accountable as should the people at the bottom.
All taxes should be paid and all dodgy acts of business, from nicking christmas cards from the post, to selling billions of pounds worth of PPi, should be punishable by a government with a back bone.

fng ... you say ..... but I really don't see the comparison between what an employee gets and what a manager/ceo gets.

---------------------

Well at what point do you say to yourself someones earning are excessive....... And remember any CEO is only as good as people below him ... work to make him ....

We are taking Morallity here and if Morallity means nothing, then pay him 100 million and charge bank customers more to use their banks ....you are no doubt charged extra by you bank towards top salaries somewhere now.

There is a basic minimum wage.... maybe there are now grounds for a maximum wage..... based upon the the sheer high level of motivatated greed.....

If someone earned 16,000% more than me per hour i might well question what the hell does that person actually phyically do more than me......? Thats what my local barclays counter staff were taking about Bob Diamonds 4 million salary

Bob Diamond does not run a bank.
Bob Diamond runs the layer of management directly below him.
That layer of management runs the layer below them etc,etc....that's how management works.
He is allegedly paid that amount of money not because of what he physically does but because he ultimately takes responsibility for the actions of all of those under him which is kind of ironic because that is the one thing he is refusing to do.

Fishtank...point taken....

But it makes the whole situation even more corrupt and festered with greed.... if Diamond relies on so many below him then is just paid to be a voice or dictator... to delegate...... like many say all OTT.

--------------

That is correct and paid for failure often mentioned in the media etc......its called corruption...in a network of untouchables the financial banking sector are a law unto themselfs..... and the fact that the last 4 years has shown that so many wrong doings are coming to light.... corrupt and overpaid living the life of luxury... like stockbrockers annual bonuses are now a media news item... many have 500k to 2 million bounus.... these people live on another planet on a self creating wealth machine.....

If the average wage is 25k and people are earning 60 to a 160 times more it just shows how out of touch the wage structure has become..... these sort of wealth differences are like comparing another country to another ...the gap is so big..... how can M. Greene get a bonus 18 times a posties basic wage.... These god like figures created in business seem to be challenging football like financial status... and the old standard reply of.. we must pay the going rate for these high profile people... is an overstatement mainly based on GREED.

It certainly puts our status of importance in our society on a low level.... if we are just paid the going rate..?
5k below the national average of 25k in our area ...... £100 a week short.

Remember no other UK job has a 6 mile a day amount of walking in all weathers attached to it.... for just 20k come on..?

There should be a law stating that, within a company, the highest paid worker is paid no more than 10 times the lowest paid worker. Therefore is they want to increase the bosses pay, they have increase the lowest workers pay too.

10 times is plenty enough to reward a high flying, high stress job, without exploiting the lowest paid.

200 times is completey ridiculous, and should be changed. The whole system is getting out of hand, and is destroying the economy.
