Georoute ran on current routes- rounds coming up small!

Post by mandelsons_toenail »

:Very Happy

Ok so the town routes that we currently have, planner has churned them out at model week with varied call rates based on calls and mail % but still 85+ with d2ds

Yet they are showing 20-30 minutes short

We are heading towards shared vans but this isn't really where I'd like to start.

I'm still to add attendance calls for additional parcels above the given amount but I'm still thinking georoute is being harsh.

Rounds that I do that take 4 hours are showing as 3h 25m

Planner just sighed and said we will work on it

Any tips?

Road speeds are unimportant as this is the town aspect.

The PIR (post implementation revision),is the most important phase. Run with it. Don't be afraid of testing,(in which you obviously are not). Some offices/managers do not use this process. If this is not being used go down the IR framework.

Testing the routes?

I know what most of my town route spans are either from my knowledge or the guys who do the rounds.

Is this what you mean?

As I say these routes are my existing rounds. Not new

The Span Indicator has been removed. Again the PIR process should be used. You may get a test request from the planners no doubt. Make sure your IWT is up to date and the BSI and model week agreed too. Sounds like this may of ripped out your hours.

Ok

Iwt is ok and Rcs is a mess....

Bsi is allegedly 90 but have doubts

We lapse prep currently to the tune of 80 hours a week for some rounds.

Planner only wants to test firm rounds and rurals with a test of some sort...

Planners are wanks 5.30 today and we've already been tested we came in at 4.20 for a 4.15 duty last week, we are going to see what they say and demand a retest on a heavier day if they do nothing about it.

BSI should have been agreed with you as part of Phase 2. Disagreement. (as agreed,a set EP then increments of 5 over two years). Your RCS should have headers for different things indoor. IPS/Prep

No testing? Disagreement. Planners are to FACILITATE only!

Georoute is based on SMV standard minute values and is therefore based on observation by Industrial engineers. Each task has a SMV and I think the guide is located within the Phase 2 documents on the RM website.

I agree that phase 5 and 6 are the most important phase for us and is about testing the actual against the model.

Unfortunatly, the planners are able to play with the data used within the tool in order to get a result they want.

Some common practices are to set the terrain as flat, because walking on the flat is faster then walking up a hill, in my patch we have a spread sheet that is ment to calculate the adjustment for attendance calls (packets, tracked, records, specials, etc) but since it gives a SMV of 52sec per item confirms that the program has been set up wrong. I say this because 52sec is for a successful delivery, 76 sec is for a P739 (standard) 86 sec is for a P739 (all items with barcodes), so simple maths can tell you that the 52sec is wrong. I got over this problem by reducing the intervention totals by 25% I:E 100 items would be reduced to 75.
Before testing you would need to know the breakdown of the workload by stream for each walk and the process to deal with the excess items. The planners should be able to provide this info because it is vital for the testing phase. Up and down the country we have members being bullied and harrassed by managers when the workload presented to them is way over what was planned. The planner should provide a breakdown of the attendance calls per day say monday 27 tuesday 35, etc and in my units we have staff everyday given the managers excess items.

When things go wrong it is key to revisit all the base data, check APLUS measurements, delivery points, etc and if wrong put right, BAU stuff like cleaning, refueling seems to be overlooked by the planners and so if not planned within duty builder then failure is the result.

Getting the message to staff that for the next 12 weeks they must work to the standards and not come in early, weigh pouches, take M/R, WTL,etc....will help shape the end state duty set, hey I just saw a flying pig. But if you know people are cutting corners then log these issues and bring them into the reviews at 4/8/12 weeks.

The view of HQ is that if a rep isn't happy with the duty set then use the I/R framework.

Although the laser measurement roleout will coming to your D.O soon.

Thanks

I have the streams and breakdowns per route

I have worked on the attendance call stuff and have uplifted slightly as you say unsuccessful stuff isn't accounted for

Bau stuff hasn't been included I've asked for it to be but currently it isn't

Tuesday they say. Tuesday....

Rounds would only be tested wed-fri and packet counts were done over 6 weeks.

I would also ensure it matched model week

If we 'knock firmly, wait and then knock again' and 'If you receive no response after a minute or so, then start filling out the P739 card' as advocated in June's issue of Courier, this time may prove difficult to achieve!

It is very important to ensure that these figures are achievable, since the packet market is growing but the duty spans are not being periodically reviewed it can only become less achievable over time.
In addition it is also essential to ensure that the anticipated number of calls per duty is somewhere close to reality. My current experience is approximately 1 in 20 calls requires attendance, I'd guess georoute is looking at nearer to 1 in 50.

Successful attendance call – signature on card
58.6

Successful attendance call – signature on PDA
52.9
Its quicker to obtain a signature on a card. The PDA's are so slow and I've lost count of the times the PDA has shut down and needed rebooting.......very professional :cuppa

We are currently having another revision this time the packet count is being broken down into each loop whereas before it was broken down in to the duty. Its a lot more faffing around in the morning which a lot of people are moaning about but will be beneficial in the end.
