Maternity pay for "Temporary Contract"

Post lady on " temporary contrct " is four month pregnent and her " contract " finishes in 5 months... do you think DOM will renew her temporary contract and will the DOM ( royal mail ) pay her maternity pay and allowances etc for 26 weeks ? So for management is not saying any thing . Has anything like this happened in your delivery office? This post lady is member of CWU.

As a fixed term employee, you have the same rights as permanent staff to protection from discrimination if you are pregnant or taking maternity leave.Your employer will be acting unlawfully if they refuse to employ you, refuse to renew your fixed term contract, or if they dismiss you because of pregnancy or maternity leave absence. However, an employer can decide not to renew your fixed term contract during an employee's maternity leave if there is genuinely no other work for you.

If RM decide not to renew her contract they will have to be able to do so only on the basis that there is no work for her.
In my experience that is almost impossible in a business this size and not a risk any sensible manager is likely to take.

and what if you're not fit to work ?
you're pregnancy, means you can not walk distances or carry anything?
which means you are not fit to do the job you were employed for?
or is it not worth argueing over?
girl pregnant in our office, she worked a couple of weeks and he let her off on sick leave explaining that she wasnt up to the job, she gets full pay.

Well that myth is now shattered teefs - some bloke has given birth and he said - "what the hell is all the screaming about - it's like shelling peas". Not least of all though we do our share, there's the initial input, running around getting coleslaw at midnight, commiserating with the morning sickness, bad back, headaches, telling you you're beautiful when you look like the side of a barn, going "without" and finally being coerced into the actual birth when all the mystique is dispelled and life is never the same again....................yes we men have it even tougher

Management do not "let you off on the sick".
It's not their decision...it's yours.

hello,
i'm 22 weeks pregnant and on 3 months fixed term contract that ends in november, told my line menager about my pregnancy and i'm wondering if he should do my risk assestent as well?also am i entittled to maternity pay/leave?
i'm doing my usual dutyes - sorting mails, pushing yorks etc. overtimes, i'm worried that the'll not extend y contract for next 3 months and don't know what to do
any help most appricieted

Your contract will be renewed as normal ... no problem what so ever. There was a case in our DO and she got every thing what she wanted.
