Free Redirections !

I am a collections driver and it amazes me when i empty boxes , how many letters have the address crossed out and a new address written next to it ! So it is redelivered for free. Once you have posted a letter from A to B end off . If RM want to save money , kill them all off . RTS Simple . Not at this address . Why are we giving the public a free service ?

So why do some people pay when some don't? I notice this all the time and I honestly don't care in the slightest but you'd think that you wouldn't offer the service for people to pay for and also let others do it for nothing, I suppose you can pretty much guarantee your paid for ones will always be redirected whereas you can't know if either the new occupant of your old house is trustworthy enough or that someone in the office will remember.

Some people have to pay depending upon whether it was opened first and/or addressed to a business or not. Businesses don't receive free redirections, and opened mail is classed as "accepted" and therefore requires new postage to be applied before it's forwarded.

But "kill them all off , RTS Simple" is RM time in returning them to sender so not a lot different forwarding them to another address.
My memory stretches back to when ALL redirections were free and there wasn't a problem with that ( and my father even had one for the fortnight of our annual holiday ). Now though RM makes a charge to cover the cost of sending labels to Delivery Offices and us affixing them to letters before they're forwarded to the new address.

Worked in the callers office for a week and we had a load of surcharges on letters with address scrubbed out . And a new one next to it . They were the ones with TNT , UK mail etc on them . But that did not last long ?
