Unattended Mail Initiative Report

Like many of my CWU and non union colleagues before me who have been subjected to the infamous Royal Mail Security van checks whilst out on delivery. The said tailing and observation then introduction happened to me recently whilst out on a van delivery.

Whilst away from my van and walking to my next household delivery point I was approached by a gentleman who flashed me his I.D. which showed Royal Mail Security he then proceeded to start filling out an Unattended Mail Initiative Report in my presence asking relevant questions.

Those of you who have not yet been subjected to this should note the following:

Report which he fills out in your presence is - Unattended Mail Initiative Report
Date & Time are wrote down.
Your delivery office is noted as is the street location you are currently in.
The following headings (Walk, Trolley Type, Cycle, OMV, Private Vehicle, Pouch Box, Pouch Drop) one of these is ticked.
Security Procedures Maintained Yes or No.
No of SD items on hand.
Appropriate equipment used.
Incident Details - in my instance my delivery duty number and vehicle reg no. His comments (Correct procedures observed. OMV locked when unattended. All mail in rear).
You are asked for your I.D.
Duty Holder. Casual yes/no. Your Signature. Security Manager's Name. Security Manager's Signature.
Your Manager's name.
Receipt number of report. He then proceeds to give you a copy of the completed report and tells you to hand it back to your manager.

TBH i would not give any details to anyone approaching me on delivery wether they had a badge or not. ID badges can be knocked up on any pc.

Do we have to play along here or ask that he returns with you to the office to complete the inspection. Not even the police have this amount of power over us
