What happens if i mis deliver a letter? or a packet?
would i get into trouble if it was complained about? and can it be more serious?
just wondered, coz nearly done it a few times.

The customer will come out and tell you it's the 500th time this has happened this week even though it's the second time in 20 years.

It happens to everyone....it's no big deal.
The trick is not to do it twice to the same address....or three times etc....

If I'm on a duty I don't know it's almost guaranteed I''ll mis-deliver at some point. There are to many properties with no numbers on the door. The Biggest puzzle to me is how customers who live in a property that is out of sequence and with no number on the door don't understand why they get the wrong mail. I covered a duty recently and the evens went 10,2,4,6 and 8, only 10 and 6 had numbers on the door, what a suprise I mis-delivered. When a customer complains to me about a mis-delivery I tell them politely about this amazing idea that involves putting a number on their door. Some will come back with a response "we have a number" and point to some obscure place like the garage roofing eaves.

You probably misdeliver at least a couple of items a day without noticing... to be honest, say 600 calls, even 5 mistakes is only 0.008% of delivery points, ie. you do it right 99.992%.

How is it 0.008%? If you misdelivered to 6 out of 600 delivery points, that's 1%.

The only thing is we're the only people who are expected to be 100% correct, 100% of the time........if only all other employees in the UK where as efficient as posties then this country would outdo even the mighty Germans

DOM here reckons there shouldn't be a single mis-delivery as we should be looking at each letter BEFORE posting it. They haven't done a delivery in decade(s)

Dunno about anyone else but I tent to only look at the property number. As I got into the habit of doing that I've now found it really difficult to look at the road name as well as I assume its correct. I normally pick up mistakes but its a bit embarrassing when a householder says this is "2 Priorswood Road" why have you given me "2 Malvern Terrace???" "Salisbury CLOSE" and "Salisbury ROAD" some times end up in the wrong place as well.

On the slight plus side I've found if I'm really apologetic then customers don't complain officially. Only had 2/3 in the last couple of years then its only been a "just to let you know, and be more careful next time!" from the DOM

You can always quote the standard reply for a mis-delivery ...
