How come Royal Mail source these CAT trainers that become like ice-skates on mossy basement steps when it's wet? They claim to be anti-slip, but they're the most anti anti-slip things ever! Slipped down some basement steps today, told the cover manager when I got back, all he said was are you OK - I said yes as I was at the time. Now stiffening up up & in quite a lot of pain. Working Bank Holiday Monday to try & cover packets for this useless new way of working they bought into my section last week (luckily I still do an old-style walk!), so will speak to my real manager then (who is a decent 30+ year man).

You shouldn't be walking on mossy paths, if it looks dangerous to walk on then don't, endorse it, bring it back, tell your manager and let them sort it out.

Unfortunately I wasn't really paying attention - only started this walk last week & hadn't had this problem with the dodgy steps before. Will definitely be extra vigilant next week.

If you did that over here you'd get a warning for failing to follow H&S guidelines.

How can you get a warning for H&S when the steps look OK till you're actually going arse over tit doing them? My original question was why can't they get trainers which are actually anti-slip? These things are a nightmare on anything slippy like moss or slate drives, etc. Had a few times when I've slipped over on dodgy drives/steps.

They are tested, they are anti slip but not on unsuitable surfaces which is why you're not supposed to walk on them.

The only thing slippier is a pair of Magnums.

Dr Martens have the only truly non-slip soles.

You can't tell if a path is slippy by looking at it.

I slipped last week and it wasn't even raining, steps just looked normal and dry, but were slightly wet.

Yes, I had my Cat trainers on, I was keeping my Docs for winter, but not now..

moss can be worse than ice as its a year round hazard .

how many driveways/ paths with a stain of moss look dangerous?
i sort of agree with you but it usually takes a near thing.. slip/stumble to highlight a danger ,
and of course you should always report it etc

Cat trainers are absolute rubbish in the wet.
Any polished type drives or footpaths you are in trouble.
My other trainers(karrimor) are fine in the wet.
As the saying goes "you get what you pay for"

Magnums....comfy to wear...fall apart in weeks.
Cat Trainers...ice skates.
Cat Boots...like wearing lead weights..
Doc Martins...great boots...after a month of tearing your feet to shreds.

spot on from my experience
i would add that i used to wear Docs a lot in my teens (army cadets etc) the tread on these RM Doc's doesnt last me three months
ive long suspected that the rm version isnt up to the quality of the retail version.

Try Googleing the price of CAT trainers against the price of Karrimor trainers and you'll see why RM chose the CATs............oh wait £80 for CATs and £25 for Karrimors.............somebody must be on kickbacks (is that liable?).
