Fire drills

Post by Almighty1 »

Today we sat through all 3 fire safety training videos in WTLL and i always believed a register was suppose to be taken, however the videos never mentioned or showed this. My question is Could anyone please tell me if a register is suppose to be taken when there is a fire drill? i can see that a register would only account for employees and not members of the public on the premises i.e. collecting parcels etc Also contractors have a separate signing in sheet kept in the managers office which in the case of a real fire may not be obtainable.. Also multiple fire meeting points, do you have these or just a single one? I would imagine thats encase there is very large groups of employees or possibly encase one place is compromised by the fire, such as the wind blowing smoke from the building in that particular direction. Your thoughts would be appreciated :hmmmm

All our signing in and out forms (for visitors and contractors too) were ALWAYS out on the side along with our signing in sheets. TBH, it was usually just me in the office quite a lot of the time and I can't say that I'd pick them up on the way out!! I'd never had training or been told I have to.

Essential that Signing in & Out are completed.

You would not want a fireman risking his life searching an empty building because someone had failed to sign out.

i can answer this one

a fire alam test needs to be done every week and recorded in the red fire safety folder

their is no set rules on evacuation fire drills but it is done every six months and recorded again in the red fire safety folder

their is now no need to do a roll call at the fire assembly point.
each office has to have dedicated fire marshalls who will report to the emergency services if needed.

it is their job if safe to make sure each floor is clear and report that fact to the emergency services if needed

they will state if they have been unable to confirm an area is clear to the fire brigade

their is no need anymore for a roll call

As much as I can understand a register is not required as we have fire marshals to clear each floor, i still don't see how it would hurt to take one to at least account for all employees encase a room has possibly been over looked and a employee is missing... just asking the questions that were asked today. thanks

what will be comming to an office near you very soon is a booking in and out procedure done electronic

the new ID cards have a bar code on them. to enter or exit a royal mail building you will need to press the bar code against an optical reader for entry and exit.

this will be recorded and persons on site will be made avaliable. they will use this no doubt for docking wages etc as your work time is being accounted for with delivery methods being optimised as well

i also would imagine in the event of a fire the register may not always be picked up depending on the fire exits used and the location of where the fire broke out, so this could possibly be why it's not taken, because picking up the rgister cannot be relied upon.

Absolutely nothing in the Royal Mail Manual for completion of operational fire risk assessment that requires a register or roll call.

Registers can be dangerous unless they can be guaranteed to be 100% accurate...which they can't.
Imagine a fireman losing his life looking for someone who had actually nipped out to the shop.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

in my four years as a postie I have never been involved in nor heard of a fire drill happening in our DO.
unless of course, the DIM does it once we are all out on delivery so he only has to make sure he gets out + the PHG office bod.

Persons who are asleep at the time of a fire are particularly vulnerable

:hmmmm
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Why? because he can read and then copy and paste from an document? Specifically "Q.3.4 sleeping accommodation"

No it's because he used the red crayon.
Everybody knows management love colouring crayons.
