Advice Please Repick and Family friendly Duties

Hi all,

Our office is undergoing a full van share revision. We are due to have a repick but a contensious issue has occured.

Out of 35 duties (approx 45 staff) 15 people have applied for and been given Family Friendly status.

We have now been told that these people in seniority will be allowed to pick duties before anybody else can, then the rest of us will then pick the remaining duties based on seniority.

Whilst of course people with children should be accomadated I would have thought this would have been before the repick stated and that these duties would not form part of the repick.

is there any policy on this or has anybody else come across this. Very grateful for any help.

our family friendly duties were not put in the revision

the people that had been given them to accomadate family friendly kept them

what is the remit of F&F
eg what is it about those duties that allow F&F
different start time? or simply 'easier' duties?

in ours it is different start times and they are paired up with another FF duty that requires the same duty times as them or it is done like a job share where one works some days the other does the rest - static days no rotations

Right to Request Flexible Working
• Does an employee already have arrangements in place?
• If so ensure that these are covered in an appropriate duty for that individual’s attendance pattern.
• Ensure this duty is ring fenced for this employee under the office re-pick
• If a person submits an application under this legislation during the design process, then the normal business procedures should be followed.
• These are detailed in the Flexible Working Policy
• It is important to note that managers are obliged to seriously consider all applications from eligible people and can refuse a request only if there are clear business grounds for doing so.

The finish times in our office are going from 14:15 to 15:00.

If someone says they collect their child / children from school would this be enough criteria to be given a family friendly duty.

We seem to have over a quarter of the office that our DOM has given family friendly duties.

Bizarre ???

We have a guy who was given a fixed sat off under FF but then he works them all on OT

To be fair what is 45 minutes,wouldn't it of been easier just to keep the same finishing times.
There is always a way to sort things if those involved in the revision worked a bit harder on it,maybe nick 15 mins or so.

Isn't it a bit weird how animated members get when they think someone else is getting something they aren't.
It's just a shame they go back to sleep when it comes to protecting their own terms and conditions.
...and no,i'm not on "family friendly" but if i could get the whole office on them i would....and i'm working on it.

Well I'd deal with it simply.....................no FF under any circumstances...............family circumstances are the responsibility of the individual not the company that employs them.
