Does Seniority still exist? I only ask because in our Office other the last 18 months or so, some Newbies are being moved up to becoming Drivers before other staff who have at least 5 / 10 or more years service to the Job.

Does Seniority still exist? I only ask because in our Office other the last 18 months or so, some Newbies are being moved up to becoming Drivers before other staff who have at least 5 / 10 or more years service to the Job.

The guys with the service have the knowledge, if they moved you to driving they'd have to train the newbies, this way they keep the knowledge doing the hard work and the newbies get the driving duties.

It's not right or fair but commercially it makes sense.

You don't need seniority to go driving. Just ask your manager to do your changeover

Maybe its because the other members of staff do hold current driving licence's ?

This last week i've been off and a few of us are obviously being overlooked as now 2 of these guys (who have been here less than 12 months) have been told they're getting made up to F/T .. We hold valid Driving Lincences so thats no excuse. It's an absolute joke this, where's the Loyality???

Have you raised it at Area level?

Union Rep is just a ' yes man ' and yes a few of us have asked about the Driving side of things but to no avail - which is why i asked the original question of Seniority.. surely if spaces become open then time served should still be in practice, its only practical.
