New starters (maybe) getting my round...

The latest in our shed is our DIM DOM says new starters could get a permanent round, (taken off anyone, including those with 20+ years service), and because us old timers know half a dozen or so rounds, there would only be a need for newbies to learn one round.
As the little Lord Voldemort says, we are employed to do any round he chooses for us.

5.2 Fixed Walk
For a minimum of the next 6 weeks wherever possible New Entrants will be provided
with a fixed duty in order that they can embed their new learning through a fixed
walk.
To help to facilitate this:
• Vacant delivery duties at the time will normally be covered by New Entrants. The
duties will however still be filled on a permanent basis as per the Way Forward
Agreement/compliant local resourcing practices but the new duty holder will not
take up the post until the end of the 6 week training period.

• Where the only vacancies are leave reserves or floaters a suitable Delivery duty
may be identified and agreed locally with the CWU (preferably in advance) to
designate a training walk for that New Entrant. This duty can again still be signed
for but on the proviso that it is vacated whenever new entrant training is required.

The duty holder will have first choice of any other vacant duties during this period.
Where a delivery cannot be identified to isolate for a 6 week period the New Entrant
will be given additional support i.e. they will receive a day shadowing on the first day
of each of the 6 weeks.

It should be noted that stability on 1 walk for 6 weeks should
always be the principle aim as this alternative will be disadvantageous for the new
entrant and may have practical difficulties. This aspect will therefore be closely
monitored and jointly reviewed.

Not like when I started then... 3 days to learn each duty... 3 days excused inward sorting, anyone would think people start the job then find it 's too much for them, and they could be at home playing on the x-box.

Postman, in our depot we have 3 new starters all being on the same round for a good 4 months now, and 1 for 7 months. There are 3 others in the office who have been there longer than these 4 people but who do not know which round they are doing until they arrive in the morning. It doesn't seem very fair - is this just how it is or is there anything written down anywhere to say they should be moved around now?

I've been a floater/reserve for around 9 months, so far I have done around 12 duties (with NO training) in the office so far. I am a non-driver, so rural duties etc i cant do, so who knows how many I would have been expected to cover if I was a driver.....although I now have a more regular float.....

been floating for 5 weeks since coming off my starting round which actually lasted 4 months..
i love doing a different round each week.... as long as you forget Monday's which are a 'kin nighmare usually.

Im not sure id want a different round every day like a few floaters do, but a weekly change is fine by me.
Why would anyone want to do the same walk day after day, year after year, in some cases probably decade after decade!?
It's a bit of a mundane job as it is, but having different views, people, streets and even dogs each week keeps it a bit fresher

Way forward,those duties should of gone up for signing 'if' they are vacant.

I agree wiith you. What gets me is why people pick horrible, long walks that they have to do day after day, just so they can get their own walk? Why not stay on leave reserve until a decent walk comes up, at least you get some easy walks! And it stays fresh and interesting!
