Hospital appointments

Can someone please advise what the rules are regarding hospital appointments. Do you have to take a day off as annual leave, unpaid leave, or does Royal Mail pay you for the day and have to cover your walk?

Regular medical treatment and hospital appointments:
Where regular treatment or hospital appointments are occurring the employee should try and get appointments outside work hours and Royal Mail should help by arranging changes to working hours wherever possible. Managers should treat requests for additional time off with sympathy bearing in mind that a stoppage of pay may add to the stress of having to attend hospital for treatment or for hospital appointments. Individuals involved in hospital treatment or those attending a hospital appointment should provide confirmation of from their Doctor or the hospital, and absences should not count towards attendance procedure.

I have to say that in the last few years I have had numerous appointments, I show the DOM my letter they photocopy
it, and if I need time off there has'nt been a problem.

I have an additional question, what if the appointment is for a sibling? Thanks =]

Wouldn't it be easier just to get the DOM to deal with all the medical problems...............afterall they seem to be the font of all medical knowledge

Has to be a very harsh screw to turn you down stuff like that.

Yeah, just get the DOM to have a look, they'll be able to sort it seeing as they're more qualified than any Dr you'll ever see!

i have had a lot of hospital appointments over the last 20 months for suspected serious condition and have always used a/l however after my last appointment i got a letter 2 days later to go back into hospital for a opperation 6th feb i only had 1 weeks a/l left which was booked for this week so asked managment if i could cancel thurs and fri of my weeks holiday to cover my 2 days i will need for the hospital but was told i couldnt split the week i had already had booked i told them the only other thing i could do was to go sick and they agreed with me but would still not let me split the weeks holiday so i will go sick and trigger a 1st stage warning where is the logic in this decision? no wonder royal mail are struggleing ffs

I was under the impression that if you are having regular appointments for an existing condition then the employer has to make 'reasonable adjustments' for you to be able to attend. I would even go so far as to say it's illegal for them not to. However, for the odd appointment or for taking little Tarquin to have his ears syringed, I'd have thought a little give and take on both sides wouldn't be too much to ask?

Just go on the sick. 1st stage warnings are auto-generated and its down to the DOM if he gives you it. f your DOM isn't a total tosser he wont give you it seeing its an ongoing health thing and if he does, your rep should tear him (or her) to shreds...

Hi all. Can anyone help or advise please?.
I have a pre-op appointment this coming Thursday @ 10.30 am.
I was told today by my line manager, over 2 months after i informed them of my appointments,that i would have to book a days leave, make up the hours or lose pay for the pre-op.The operation itself is a different matter.
I am quite disgusted that this has been sprung on me at the last minute.
Am i being given the correct information by my line manager who i believe was speaking on behalf of my office manager, or as my uinion reps have said am i entitled to payed time off.
