Told to find another job

Been told by various Drs to find another job due to my knee/s. This has all kicked off since my AOD 3 years ago. The GP yesterday reckons I'll have 5 years at best before my knees totally f**k up. Where is the best place to start for looking for training options? This is the only job I've done since 1988 so all my previous skills are well outdated and need to re-educate myself.

They fecked your knees,i think the least they can do is find you another role.
There must be something in the MC for you.

Our MC is shutting down this year so don't think I'll get a job in the new one as its over subscribed already. 4 MC's into one and now London want in on the act for jobs aswell. Can't see any other jobs within the new DO for me either. I wonder if they will pay costs for any courses I go on?

well you prob know all about the DDA and protected characteristics, so like myself, thats an option

How do I get myself covered with DDA?. I guess I was hoping that my injury would'nt lead to this but I now have to get realistic. The other year I had an Industrial Injury medical with the DWP but I came below the % threshold.

the main points of the DDA is that you have had the condition for more than 12 months and/or it is likely to continue

you will be sent to an atos doctor at a medical centre, and i do mean a qualified doctor.
they will give an opinion on your condition and recomend that you will be covered under the DDA. they will write to your doctor for confirmation.

you will then have protected characteristics, by that i mean no stage warnings can be issued ref your condition. most doms make up a duty then for you but they dont have to. the first avaliable job that comes up that you are able to do, I.E. locker/public callers
you automatically get that post.

TO GET THE MTSF PAYMENT I BELIEVE IT IS OVER 30 MILES BUT THAT IS JUST ONE OPTION ON MANY

your branch would handle this as a norm if royal mail throw out there toys and get you the best deal,
or it could be something as simple of a made up job for you

but the point is you are protected under the DDA

Your local tech college, 6th form college, or even university will put you in the right direction. Libraries usually carry that sort of info - at least they used to. Phone your council main reception and they will be able to pass you on to the adult training/education dept. Not everything costs, and there may be grants for certain training courses depending which area you are in. Basically, ask everyone you speak to if they have heard of any free training or grants as you search out a suitable course.

See your GP,if he states DDA then when your ATOS appointment comes up things will move swiftly. You need a referral,(with ATOS) asap though!. I enclose a link for a disability form. Fill it in and post to your nearest Job Centre Plus. You will be sent for an assessment and if over 14% you could be entitled to disability benefit. Remember DDA means that your actual quality of life is affected,not just work.

TBH stormproof they have said within the next 5 years so you have a window of opportunity to decide what it is you want to do. What exactly is the problem? Can surgery be of any help?
I would seriously consider staying at RM with the number of years you have invested. DDA should make sure you would have a position in a protected role in the DO or MC.

Looks like arthritis is setting in after that op I had last year for torn mensicus etc. Also issues with scar tissue on Iliotibial band running down the side of my thigh, thats what I heard tear when I fell, though I've yet to have treatment on that. Got another xray on Monday to see how bad 'the knee' is, hope the GP is wrong. Can't believe its taken just over a year for arthritis to appear.

I would question the judgement of any GP that uses that sort of language, unprofessional I'd call it.
And don't forget that that Britain's biggest serial killer did his evil deeds while contracted to the NHS. You can't be too careful these days.

Well if it is arthritis then I'm afraid it's not good because it isn't going to get any better and I can say that it is painful because I have it in both hands. The one good thing is that arthritis does come under DDA so if that is diagnosed in the final analysis you should be OK from that point of view.
