Annual Leave Rules

Annual Leave Agreement 2012/2013

This agreement complies with Royal Mail principles for selection as set out in the Way Forward Agreement to meet operational needs and provide a fair process for selection.

For operational requirements the leave shall be evenly spread throughout the year with no leave allowed during the christmas pressure period.

AGREEMENT

The office will be split into XX groups for leave selection
To allow fairness amongst the group the order of the group will change in subsequent years by the top 2 names moving to the bottom of the group and 3rd moves to top
Within each group there will only be one person on leave at any one time
Odd or single days can only be booked where there is a space and must be taken in blocks
Weeks cannot be split, they must be selected Monday - Saturday only
Annual leave exchanges outside of the leave group will only be permitted if there is no impact on operational requirement

Selection criteria for this year is as follows:-

First pick - Top to bottom, 2 weeks
Second pick - Bottom to top, 2 weeks
Third pick - outstanding full weeks, then purchased leave top to bottom
Last pick - odd days

Maximum carry over - 5 days

That's basically the gumph on the front cover of our leave folder but I'm unhappy with the 'weeks cannot be split' section, I'm a thursday to monday, off to Spain for 4/5 days golf kind of a guy, so my question is-

Is there anything in the Way Forward that stipulates weeks cannot be split and must be Monday to Saturday?

Also, cos I'm a reserve I get 'less saturdays' than the rest of the staff so i generally book 6 or 8 saturdays just to make sure I get some, it would appear this will be stopped also, Rep has signed this off but I don;t recall a ballot on this so can I challenge this agreement as nonsense?

Thoughts please knowledge........................

I would question it,sounds wrong to me,you guys are being had over.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

My 'personal' thoughts.

Rep not having a meeting about it thing. (Against the workings of a CWU rep)
The only carry 5 days over thing.(Against the WF agreement)
AL outside of the leave group thing.(Not 100% as we don't have groups at my place but if certain weeks/days are available then I can't see the problem)
Also not 100% if the group thing is kosha, perhaps those who do it can say.
And the Brucie bonus,no Sat to be booked thing, that one is quite funny.

Split week thing i'm unsure off,you having say 3 days in week 2 of August i would of thought would be a no no.
But you having 3 days in a week that is not full is allowed 'at my place' although judging by the stuff on here I read about holidays,my place is a holiday camp.

Agreed.
The only carry 5 days over thing.(Against the WF agreement)
5 days is actually stated in the WF but it's accepted that when the carry over is due to sick absence the limit is waived.
AL outside of the leave group thing.(Not 100% as we don't have groups at my place but if certain weeks/days are available then I can't see the problem)
That's all it means by no impact on operational requirement,if there are slots available there is no impact.
Also not 100% if the group thing is kosha, perhaps those who do it can say.
Loads of offices use the group thing, especially larger offices.
And the Brucie bonus,no Sat to be booked thing, that one is quite funny.
How can you have people using their annual leave to book 23 saturdays...that's nuts....If half a dozen decided to do it...it would f**k the holiday sheet up for everybody  ...if you're down to odd days fine...if you're splitting whole weeks up to take 5 saturdays...not fine.
Split week thing i'm unsure off,you having say 3 days in week 2 of August i would of thought would be a no no.

First of all i agree if it's available it shouldn't be a problem but the issue is like taking every saturday :left: splitting your leave week takes away two leave slots and only uses one week so you can see the potential issues, like a lot of part-timers on these rotations SL thinks he's a thursday to monday, .he's not he's a mon to sat....that's his working week so that's his leave week.

As the agreement stands it conforms to the Way Forward principles.
It should have been agreed with the members though.
This bit is iffy but probably ok...
Third pick - outstanding full weeks, then purchased leave top to bottom
Last pick - odd days
Picking purchased leave before allocated leave is borderline.
This is a framework for holiday selection.
I'm sure there will be wiggle room when the dust settles
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Hi is this agreement just for your office? Or can I find a link for this online?
