Delaying Union Rep Election

Just wondered if this is legit or considered wrong as the union election has been postponed from January until March to allow continuity as we are in the midst of a revision?

Your thoughts?

It sounds on paper at least like a sensible move.
It would have to be an office decision though...not the rep's.

It would be up to the Branch Officers, nothing to do with the Members.

Im sure the rules state that elections have to be held and the result declared by the time of the Branch AGM which are held by the end of January.

What an Office revision has to do with a Unit Election I don't know....

No offence EB but that statement is laughable.
Do you honestly think if an office agreed that the best policy was to delay the election while the revision was completed that the Branch would try to force an election that the members didn't want?
What are they going to do...hold a gun to their heads?

I think you'll find that 31st March is the cut off date for Branch AGM's

I agree it seems sensible, rep has been given 10 weeks off to sort the revision, probably be his parting shot as rep so let them get on with it :)

Why would the Members want a delay in a branch election because of a revision ? If a challenger puts him/herself forward and wins they wouldn't take the position up until after the AGM giving the rep plenty of time to put the revision to the Members.

From my experience the timescale for any branch ballot is the decision of the Branch Officers. A request may be made by the Members but the final decision is down to the branch.
