working at another location when 'spare'

Hello, I think some of us will have to go and help out at another depot from now till after Xmas as we're spare. Can I just check I've got everything right so I'm not screwed over:

if you use your own car to get there they have to pay your millage?
if you use a company van the time taken from driving there and back is included - ie I'm on a 5 hr contract so if it's 30 mins each way I only actually work for 4 hours there?
if you think you are going to go over your time, do you liase with the manager at the depot you are sent to or your own normal manager regarding overtime?

happened to me last year
they pay your mileage 45p per mile
doesnt matter if its your car or a RM Van you start at your start time then travel there ie. you drive to and from the other office in there time
you tell the manager you are working for in the other office - last year i refused to do o/t and cut off to get back to the office and make sure i had half an hour to drive back to my home office

1. 42-45 p per mile as stated above
2. I believe the time it takes to get the the DO is included in the 42-45p per mile? If not then minus the difference it takes to get to the new DO from the time it takes to get to your current DO and take this off your finish time.
3. Just tell the DOM you finish at "so and so" and you're not doing OT therefore he can get your round covered. If this is the case make sure you either leave the mail you can't take in the frame (have to ask someone the help you with this) or take it all and get someone to take it off you whilst you're out there.

If you take it all out you are duty bound to deliver it all unless you have a prior agreement (make sure it is witnessed) with the manager. They will do you for wilfull delay if you have not had this confirmed by the manager.

Don't use your own car it is up to Royal Mail to get you there

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to a different office tomorrow - they've said I can use a van so that's good. I'm doing a bit overtime before I go at my normal place then setting off - does my normal 5 hr day begin when I actually set off to the new office? Is this all written down anywhere?
