Lost Parcel Claims Proceedure

Post by mma83 »

My sister received a P739 card re a parcel sent recorded delivery and was sent back to sorting office....Went to collect and not there, went 3 days later and cannot find it.

She has been told be one of the Sorting Office staff to claim via the sender as was redcorded, but i'm sure she doesnt have any of her details. Am i wrong in thinking as it was 'lost' between her house and return to sorting office that she can claim via royal Mail?? I should know this as I was a posty for 6 months but hey, they didn't teach/tell us anything in our D.O :hmmmm

Any advice/non complicated guidelines  would be very helpful. I believe coat is between £30-50 *she said expensive so that is my guess looking at what she wears :Very Happy

Was this bought on eBay?

As far as i know its up to the sender to issue the buyer with the refund and then for the seller to claim back from Royal Mail.

There is a form you can get from any post office. They will require the original receipt from when it was posted + if it was an eBay item they will want a print out of the actual page + a print out of the paypal page. If they get all this you will get a refund in about 5 weeks.

It would be up to the sender to claim from Royal Mail afaik. That's where the contract lies. Yes you're correct in thinking that it's been lost in between her house and DO. I personally would check and see if it's there in a couple of days time. Sometimes if things are pouched off it can take a while. Last year, we were getting none of our pouches back and sent customers away empty handed. Just happened one of our Collections drivers spotted a bag in the mail centre and took a look. Was all our pouches for the week before that we hadn't received back.

If it's stuff ordered online or catalogue, it would be up to them to prove delivery, therefore it's them that should either replace or refund, then they claim from RM

The person's on the enquiry office should have taken a photocopy of their 739 card and taken a contact number. Normally they will search all the items they have within the office at the end of the day, however do give them a few days to do this.
Failing that you must ask for a claims form.

that's if the office has a photocopier that's not under lock and key in manager's office. We had to take the details from the P739 and note them on a clip board along with contact details.

Yes, was from Ebay....she has no access to the account now as she closed it down after payment was made(I presume PAYPAL so not sure if she can still claim via them without Ebay iten number etc)

They just gave her a tracking number, not sure why tho and a automated number(CLAIM NUMBER)

It's up to the seller to make the claim for the lost item from RM via a P58 form from the Post Office.

Although, there is an option there to state whether you are the sender or recipient...

mma83 - She can raise a dispute with paypal for Item Not Received. Then it would be up to the sender to either refund or replace. No idea why anyone would close there account when they have active purchases tho.

update....was paid via cheque and £35.00.

1 problem, sender has fulfilled their obligation so why should they waste their time/money?

No photocopies made of form or any details taken from it

Hold on if i've read this right then it's not right.
This has nothing to do with the ebayer/paypal as RM lost the packet from the postie to the DO.

Why would she claim against the ebayer when it's RM's fault?
RM had the parcel hence the 739.

They can put in a claim against RM as the recipient as far as I'm aware with the P58 form?

Yes, this is what I thought...it was lost between attempted delivery and either return to D.O or in the D.O. Told her to try speak directly to the DOM as I know how much they like that :dance but weill also tell her to get a P58

Thanks

Actually they haven't fulfilled their part as a seller, they have to be able to prove delivery. But as she didn't pay by paypal the point is moot. What does the tracking say when the number is entered in. It could be that it's now back at delivery office

That is so wrong,it is clearly RM's fault,if i sold something, the customer then emailed me saying the scenario in the thread,i would no way refund them,it's between them and RM.

RM had the goods in their possession at the front door of the customer, the goods are then lost,it's their fault.
