Are dog buscuits a good deterrent?

I was on a walk, and a woman with a dog were walking past. The dog rushed towards me wagging its tail. She told me he wont trouble me and likes postmen, because where she lives the postie puts a dog buscuit threw her door with the letters. So the dog associates on posties with treats!

Anyone heard of posties doing this? I have taken some dog biscuits with me to throw at any aggressive dogs in estates. I have not had to use them yet >I end up giving them to dogs if they sniff you or bark when the owner opens the door. Would an aggresive dog go for the dog biscuit instead of biting someone?

Under no circumstances should you (or any other postie) be giving dogs biscuits. It means the dog looks to all posties for a treat and then when they don't get them they can get a bit barky/bitie plus you've no idea about the dogs diet is and feeding them could cause very angry owners or ill dogs (or even both).

I don't give dogs biscuits but as a floater I cover some rurals on the odd day or week. The ones where the dutyholder does feed biscuits are a pain 'cos every mut comes running at the sight of the van. One of these days I'm going to run one over. Then when you get out they go for your fingers.

Don't do it. You'd just be causing worse problems for colleagues.

i was followed around this estate by about 30 crows, it was like something out of the Hitchcock film. They were swooping inches over my head and hopping around my feet relentlessly from door to door. Yeah the regular walk holder feeds them. Pity she couldnt train them to post letters.

Try Asda's own brand, I would be amazed if there still breathing before the biscuit touches the back of their throat !

Point taken about not feeding dogs, i wont in future

What i meant about being a deterrent , if an aggresive dogs comes at you would they choose to go for the biscuit instead of attacking? I have yet to try it.

I had this a while ago, dog pestering me, turns out dickhead on it for a while had biscuits which he fed it.. Twat..

Why the f**k should I waste my hard earned cash on biscuits for some arse of dog (or multiple arses) that shouldn't be out in the garden in the first place?

Had a postie in Brighton used to do this. Used to drive me mad! You see my dog was wheat intolerant and one dog biscuit was enough to give him the shts!!! Had to race to get the post each morning before the dog got to the biscuit.
