Post in house with porches

When I deliver letters in porch I drop them and shut the door and carry on. If there is no request on door asking me to put it through letterbox inside. I do this. 98% of customer is ok with this. but there is angry 2 percent moaning about it. I heard people complain about postmen entering the porch for delivering letters.

So what are the guideline for this. I mean some got letterbox outside but the porches door is open.

Am I suppose to put it through the letterbox inside all the times or what ? I don't want to risk dog attacking letterbox.

If the porch has a letter box then they can't moan,whether the door is fully open or not,although you should close it after throwing the stuff in anyway,if it hasn't and the door inside has then they can moan.

If it's too difficult to go in the porch because of the s**t in there while you have your bag on your back,then you've got a case to drop and run.And they should get access sorted properly.

I used to do a duty where every house had a little porch

squeeze in with the bag
post mail through the letterbox at the bottom of the door
back out
and repeat 500+ times

You have to secure the mail.

many years ago i delivered a parcel as i knocked the door was open so throw the parcel inside and
shut the door when i turned round coming up the garden path was the owner and have a quess who
locked him out. i think he moved after that.

You have to secure the mail.

Early days I was told in no uncertain terms if I entered the Porch again,he would prosecute me for trespass

Secure delivery point - If that's a porch then so be it, if the porch door closes then it's secure, how many of us open peoples front doors to drop a packet in, no different to a porch is it?

I know I do, had many an argument with customers about porches, refer them to your Lino, let him manage the situation, that's what he gets extra dollar for!

I ve had this both ways. Normally people want you to put it through the second box but ive had it the other way when folks have asked not to enter the porch at all.

I forget the amount of times I have pushed a letter through a letterbox and the door has swung open with nobody inside

If there's a letter box on the porch door then put the mail through that. The first letter box is the delivery point.

Would you leave a packet unsecured in a porch?
If the front door is open it would be reasonable to assume someone is at home.

If a door is wide open,i don't go there,got busted when i dropped the mail on the laminate flooring at one place,knocked on the door to alert them and fido came running out of a back room.
If a door is open and there is a garden i rattle the gate or call in,have always had someone come out but if nobody did i would sign it up.

I push it through the first letterbox I come to. If a porch door is open, which is very rare, then I might pop it through the inner box (if there is one) or if not in the porch. Depends if the door is usually open or closed too..

If porch door shut, but unlocked, and I have a packet I'll open porch door to drop packet in - never had a complaint in all the years I've done that. No different to porch door being unlocked but pushing mail through box - if it gets nicked it's the owners responsibility not mine!
