Nice idea, but Royal Mail are not allowed to aid and abet the avoidance of Income Tax by 1000's of employees. If it's on the payslip as taxable income, you can't avoid tax on it.

The union need lessons from the advertising industry on how to sell something that's crap, and make it look a bit more appetising.

Just think... let's say they had said to all of us - when trying to get us to vote the BT2010 Agreement - that we would get a Business Transformation Lump Sum worth £320 for a revision, the psycological effect of seeing

Business Transformation Lump Sum: £400 on your payslip would make you feel great and thinking 'hey, better keep schtumm about this, they've paid me more than was promised'.

The fact that, after deduction of 20% Income Tax, you would only have actually received £320 (exactly what they said it would be worth) would be forgotten, and you not then feel like you'd been 'cheated' out of £80 ??

Memo to CWU Leadership: when making agreements with RM that involve lump sums, publish the likely post-tax amount we would get, not the pre-tax figure. Simples !!
