hi could some one let me know royal mails procedure on a signed for packet left in customers postbox (at front gate) signed for by postman and left in mentioned post box(metal) as customer claims not received/found .is it a serious offence/suspended/sacked.

Depends on the circumstances, can lead to the sack, you could try writing to the postman concerned, asking him why he signed for the item, he might have an understanding with the customer regarding items (some posties believe that they are doing their customer a favour by doing this ) And if you don't receive an acceptable answer report the f**ker.

Why on earth would you sign for a packet on behalf of a customer .......
Basically RM is a strange beast, discipline is anything but consistent and can depend on a multitude of things i.e mood of DOM,wether he likes you or not and so on. However I do not believe it is a sackable offence, more experienced posters may advise you deffinatally, but it is likely it will lead to the conduct code. What you have done is in contradiction of what we have been told recently at WTL and i've no doubt forms a part of RMs training. If you read this forum regularly you will see it is frowned upon by most on here.....
You have made a silly mistake and if you are not a serial offender with luck you may get off with a warning but as I say it varies from office to office. Any how if you do get off with it take heed in future there are good reasons for people preaching "do the job properly".....

As Cheetah says it entirely depends on your manager. However prepare for the worst and get your rep and area rep involved soonest.

It shouldn't be done, I know some people have those secure boxes that have numbers to put in if a signature is needed but I'll still get one and bring it back to the office if necessary

I had a special delivery last week and it had a selotaped note on it saying "if not in deliver to neighbour"
I rang my DOM and said" that it doesnt give another address , just neighbour" and he said do it.
I said I was with my P/L partner who was a witness and he went quiet.
I brought it back, its not worth it

Open to abuse this.... whats to say that a customer didn't sign then later claims not to have done so and that the postie must have? or than another member of the household signed in a multi occupancy house and has 'stolen' the item?

surely its one persons word against another unless that postie has a history of such complaints from a number of different addresses.

PLEASE people don't assume that the postie is always at fault.... many/the vast VAST majority of us are hard working honest people.

The oppo in our office who signed for a packet himself and then posted it to the wrong house, was sacked. He did have "history" though.
I think that the oppo ought to speak with the customer and offer compo out of his own pocket, tell them that he faces disciplinary process within R.Ms now authoritarian structures, appologise profusely (to the customer), ask them to withdraw the complaint and trust to mercy.
Meanwhile maintaining an abstract distance to any discourse with management.
And then dont ever do it again. Not even for your own mum.

Something doesn't add up here, do you WANT to get the postie in trouble or something? I know its repercussions here, but you seem a little too interested in the outcome rather than the offence. How do you know he left it there or even signed for it, if the customer never received it. Very puzzled here.

I take it you need to know for eBay evidence or something as it's not your house?
