Lost Pouch box Keys

Right, so I was coming back from delivering to the the last street on my round today, and while I was walking back I got some funny looks from a guy across the road, I did not think anything of it until, he shouted me across, and said that he had just seen a guy at the pouch box down the road, opening it up and then walking towards the bus stop. Then I checked my pockets and crapped myself when I could not find my keys. They must have fallen out of my pockets. Anyway I then ran to the bus stop and seen the guy, who spoke to me and said he was going to hand in the keys tomorrow, so I took the keys back off him and went back to the box to get my bags, which were still there. There was no mail in the pouch box as I had finished my delivery. I then took the box keys back to the DO.

Now I am wondering if the first guy or the other guy will phone the DO and tell them, what happened. I reckon I will get the bullet if they do, I know I would have got the bullet if I did not catch up with the guy at the bus stop and get the keys back of him.

Guess I will just have to wait and see if anything happens tomorrow when I get to the DO. One of those days

I would deffo wait and see what happens and keep quite. The chances are he wont bother phoning in.

Yeah, I am not going to mention anything unless they mention it to me, then all I can say is that the keys fell out of my pocket and this lad picked them up for me and then I got them back of him . Which is kind of the truth

Anyway, whatever happens happens,I guess its not worth worrying about

You wouldn't of been the first to loose some pouch box keys i've had some handed to me in street before found in the box (from another round) no mail was put at risk so i wouldn't worry about.

I've left my keys in a pouch box and had them handed in.
It's called a genuine mistake.
The most important thing if it happens is to report it immediately as it's not the loss of the keys that's the issue but the security implications.
In your case that's not an issue as you recovered them.
No harm done...no need to fess up.
No-one is likely to take the time and hassle to phone up to say they found some keys but handed them back to the postman.

It was the first guy, the one that told me about the other guy who had the keys, I thought might phone up since he did not know if I got the keys back or not, and the way he was talking when he spoke to me, it sounded like he thought this guy was dodgy.

If you know the bloke who told you about the keys, knock on his door tomorrow and praise him , tell him you got your keys back thank him make him feel good. Thats probably all he wants

go in tomorrow and explain exactly what happened

at the end of the day you got the keys back and no harm was done

however if one of the people decides in a weeks time to ring up and enquire whether you managed to find your keys then you will be in the s**t for not reporting it

I would however see your rep first explain to them then go and see the manager - but you need to make sure you report it tomorrow

otherwise it may seem you are trying to cover it up

and when it comes out ( and it probably will) they will want to know why you didn't report it at the time

cover your arse

Cover what up ? Nothing was taken/stolen except the keys, for about 5 minutes, and I got them back. I am not covering anything up. Doing what you say, will without doubt just land me up s*** creek without a paddle.

You didn't lose your keys. You temporarily misplaced them. There's a difference. Problem presented itself, problem was solved.

I will clarify what I meant

no you didn't do anything wrong you simply lost your keys it can happen

but if you don't report it and the other people do ( it may not be tomorrow, they may remember in a week and think oh did he get them back i'll ring and check)

then RM are quite rightly going to want to know why you didn't report losing them in the first place - after all if you got them back why not report it no harm done eh?

so that's what I mean just cover yourself by letting them know what happened then if the customer does ring up they can just say " yeah he got them back the same day"

at the end of the day it's up to you it's your neck not mine

There's a time for honesty in RM and a time to keep your mouth shut.
No harm was done...it is very,very unlikely that anyone will contact his manager so now is the time to move on.
If by some miracle the guy does phone in he can always say that as nothing was missing and the keys were handed straight back he saw no need to inform anyone.
It's the reasonable response that most people would take.

maybe i'm seeing it from a different angle

many years ago we had a spate of bag boxes broken into and mail stolen

turns out bag box keys had been going missing and had not been reported by the postie or posties concerned as they found them soon after

they were all interviewed by IB to explain why they had not reported it

anyone wanna guess the rest?
