How many packets an hour?

Just starting to have Christmas Duty discussions with my DOM. He wants to plan on a 'hit' rate of 20 per hour. I think this is a bit steep. Is there any agreement on how many packets should be delivered in one hour?

As far as I know its 16 per hr however we take it upon ourselves to do 15 as we take into account loading the van etc. Some managers have tried making us take more but the only way you can complete 20 an hr is if you speed.

Don't know official figures but 20 in an hour is 3mins/packet - bit steep unless you're delivering them all to the same street!!

Taking into account in-out van, seatbelt, speed limit, etc - it all adds up.

His argument is that at Christmas you will have lots of packets in denser areas so less driving in between which will increase the rate. I would like to see 16 written down somewhere official as that is what I thought it should be.

The packets take as long as the packets take, a dozen small ones into 1 street is easy but 3 or 4 large signed fors in a large area can take just as long. Not to mention writing out P739's, waiting for people to find their keys

, extra traffic etc.

What about a packet in a block of flats on the 3rd floor with no lift and the old lady is in the bath when you knock and her barking dog that she has to put in the kitchen 1st and then she cant find her key or her glasses. Then when you get back to your van a Tesco delivery van has blocked you in.................................... Yer 3 minutes per parcel

My drive delivers less packets per hr than the other drives in my office,how long is a piece of string.
I really don't get this packets per hr bollox.

We had the same question on the facebook page the other day...

They "expect" about 20 or so. What they get with all the safety guidelines they set out is another matter

20 an hour is no problem,but if your gaffer is expecting u to do 2 deliveries,re park and loop, then chrimbo packet ,no chance,simples
