Ripping letters purposefully

Today I had loads and I mean loads* or letters where the address had disappeared from the window, even tapping them didn't get the address into view. Anyone know what RM's position on this is? Can/should you rip an envelope enough to see the address? I've seen this done to the point where the contents or at least part of it can be seen which can sometimes be an issue if its 'private & confidential' etc. Also theres the time it takes to do issue!

We should just send it all back and get them to send it again properly, the time wasted everyday with stupid windowed envelopes must add up, sure there's some savings to be had somewhere..

we had some a few years ago where 1000's were like that, we were told to return the lot....but all had to be killed off!
it might have been quicker to rip the top and deliver the tw@ts!

and yeah, we got a few dodgy virgins today, hopefully i'll get a good un 1 day

last couple of weeks weve been battered per walk with virgin media A4 white envelopes but the address is up past the window,,,weve had to rip them all to find the address,,,,we complained and the d.o.m started rippin them for us LOL

Under NO circumstances do you tear or open letters ,as the I.B. will be breathing down your neck.Put them in the blind box and let somebody else with the authority sort it out.

No one's talking about opening the letters, just ripping them a wee bit at window to see the address.......I personally would ask your dom about it. As I said, at the induction we were told to do this.

When i get the odd one i usually just either bang them so they move and write the number on the letter so i can see it,or if it's bad dig my pen in the window to rip it a bit.

We have to sometimes tear the window to see the address.

It's a stupid state of affairs, whilst we are tearing envelopes to see the address, Virgin are going to keep using the same format and we are going to be tearing envelopes ad infinitum. The correct procedure would be to put all failed envelopes into a bag with a Direct Bag Label, a covering letter and RTS, that way Virgin would know there's a problem and it puts the onus on them.

Tick the 'Address Incomplete' box on a red sticker to kill it off. and if the sticker's over the window the address can't then mysteriously reappear.

Personally, I'd be killing them off as address incomplete as otherwise you're tampering with the mail. You're also not having the extra time factored into your walk... although you're also not having 100 extra kill offs factored in either. I expect a kill off takes slightly less time than fiddling around with the envelope.

I've always done it without really thinking Doesn't reveal any information except the address usually.. Infact, the fact the address is in the wrong place means you see more through the window (the first few lines of the letter!) than tearing the top above the window..

There speaks someone with little delivery experience. Often the letters are fine when you box them in but once they're bundled up and a little bent at the edges it can be hard to get the house number into the window when you're actually stood on the doorstep. Is it this one or next door? Rip the f****r, deliver it and move on.
