back pain

Post by dohnut »

I have recently put my back out, i.e unable to walk with a lot of pain, My question is regarding the attendance procedure as I understand in the download section, you are allowed 4 seperate times off or 14 days in 1 year, if I have more than 14 days of will this go straight to a stage 2?, My attendance is very good very rarely do I have time off apart from 1 day of recently because of a bad flu virus.

No it would be a stage one, supposed to be consideration like you good record but they are handing them out like candy, once you are on a stage 1 a futher 2 absences within 6 months of each other within that year or one of 7 days or more will trigger a stage 2, i think

Wasn't an accident, but did feel a 'twinge' while on delivery but wasn't that bad and managed to complete, about an hour after I got home it must of seized up because I could hardly walk and was in constant pain. Apparantly these things can either last a few days and go by themselves our several weeks. And more its basically pain killers, rest and gentle stretching exercises. So would it be better to stay of longer than to go back with the chance of this reoccurring soon after returning to work.

When you return to work make sure you are not carrying overweight pouches; locking up HCT to deliver loops by pouch (the HCT should be pushed round everywhere unless you can return to it within a maximum of 10 minutes, having locked it to an imoveable object, depending upon the security risk accessment of your walk/area); using pouches instead of pushing a LCT around following a P & L revision etc.

Hopefully the above is all stuff you know and follow corect delivery procedure, but its amazing how many cut corners to finish a few minutes early, not thinking long term about what happens if they are found to be cutting H&S corners and what will happen to sick; IHR etc.

Make sure you insist on rehab, and don't try to do your normal duty straight away. It's best to ease back into it, when you've had a back injury. And above all: be careful of ATOS telephone assessments! I injured my back a few years ago. ATOS assessed me over the phone, and came up with a rehab plan. Unfortunately, because they were only going off a 'phone conversation, they messed up. Resulting in me making my back far worse, and needing a second, much longer sick absence (triggering another Stage!).

I'd suggest asking your Doctor to come up with a suggested rehab, to put on a "Fit Note", to cover yourself. Obviously, ATOS will have to be involved. But if you have your Doctor's suggestions on a "Fit Note", then hopefully they'll take that into account, instead of simply guessing. You can never be too careful with back injuries.

Sorry to dissapoint my back has been bad for two years, started out as discs being imflamed now I have been to chiropractor for the last couple of weeks OUCH , even though Atos has been involved I am still amde to carry bags on back by dom :arrrghhh . in 3 weeks time I am having a steriod jab from the hospital,

I currently use a cycle LWT and next week a HCT my limit is 8-10KG weight on back my advice to Atos

my dom is insisting starting from next week to carry a bag after parking up a HCT, arrrghhh, the last time I carried bags it made my back worse

BTW say it was done on duty fill out a accident form then go to DOWP if it does not get better after 15 weeks and they may class it as disability , that is what i done and I am being re-accessed in a couple of weeks time for ongoing disability been two yrs now

Cross your arms and stand about a foot away from a wall.
Push your hips gently towards the wall about 10 times then turn around and repeat the process with the other hip.
Do this 3/4 times a day.
Assuming you haven't done irreparable damage (if you had you would probably be flat on your back anyway) this might pop it back in.

Yes but without the pelvic thrust.
Best wait until you are fully recovered before trying that move.
