Rumours are afoot that all postmen and managers who expressed any interest to leave the business on VR terms will now face compulsory redundancy next March 2012.Senior management will use these lists as persons who do not want to stay in the business and it will be these who are made redundant. Anyone else heard this?? Despicable if true.

RM can't use the VR list for CR (unless things have changed since I was taught about employment law many moons ago), the criteria for CR is the job is to no longer exist.........but I will withdraw that if someone else knows better

As we all know, jobs will be going sooner or later.Who draws up the criteria for these job losses? Very easy to say those who wanted to go can go. But under compulsory now and not VR. The unions need to look at this closely and get some legal advice and clarity from Royal Mail.

well there is not a lot of guvnors left in north london so it looks like the only
option will be the workers and as we have had no revisions like the rest of the
country.
i am sure our union will get us a decent deal like always.

how much less is redundancy to vr, i know a lot of old guys who would go now, the job has taken its toll on them.

There is no fixed amount.
It could be MTSF terms or statutory terms or an offer of anything in between.
To get your answer you have to understand the reasons why the redundancies would have to be compulsory.
As you say if you're offering top whack there's not usually a shortage of volunteers except maybe in London.

It's not likely to be deliveries either.
Anyway...t'is but a rumour.

They done an 'on paper' exercise a while back in my office. 99% of the office said yes, so what happens if a whole DO wants out?.........

Statutory redundancy is an option for RM and would be a lot less than voluntary, and depends on age, years service(max. 20) and weekly pay(max. £400). Calculate yours here.

Based on RM VR terms a few years ago, mine would be about £15,000 less!

I just done a calculation on 23yrs service at £395 P/W came out at £10,500 from the GOV Link

In 1986 I was made redundant from an office job 9yrs service and got £6,000

It does not seem that it has increased much over the years, does RM pay basic redundancy? just curious
