Does seniority Still apply

Hi just a guick question, there is a run coming up for grabs in our office soon and we have a manager coving sickness who says that it would be NOT based on seniority, but buy how well you do in interview! He said thats how hes understood it, and i said its the first i have heard of that, is he wrong or right and is there any documents to back me up etc?
I have been waiting for 8 years to get my own run and ill be mightly angry if they have changed to rules and does me out of this run.

If its not a specialised duty then seniority still holds the ground and your DIM is trying to pull a fast one.

If anyone in your office did take on the vacant duty by going through the interview route, then more fool them.
They may think that they have jumped the queue this time but what goes around comes around and next time
someone with less time in than them takes something they want, it's only by posties in offices sticking together
and refusing to go along with that sort of practice that will prevent the DOM from choosing their favourites.

FILLING OF VACANCIES/JOBS
6. The key requirement is to ensure that all jobs are filled by individuals with the right skills for the job, and that this is done in a way that both takes account of personal preference, suitability and minimises disruption to the customer and employees.

Seniority will be used to fill the majority of jobs, because the Business recognises the value of employees' experience and length of service. Those jobs that require more specialist skills have been identified and are listed at Section 15. They will be filled using an objectively-based selection process. The necessary training will be given prior to appointment.

5 Employees who wish to be considered for specialist jobs in general should register their interest via the Resourcing Unit or include it in their own Development Plan, a copy of which will be held by the Resourcing Unit (see section 19). This information will be used for training planning. Where a vacancy arises, equal consideration will be given to individuals who have registered their interest through Development Plan or through the Resourcing Unit in writing at the time when the vacancy is advertised. The objective is to allow and maintain openness and fairness in relation to resourcing specialist posts.

6 The specific jobs that require specialist skills and which will be subject to selection are:

Resourcing Unit (Bookroom);
DOM Support;
Traffic Office;
Enquiry/Callers' Office;
Major Customer Collection drivers
(to be jointly defined at National level);
Benefits Agency/ Customer Mailroom;
Travelling Post Office;
Leadership roles (formerly PHG "A");
Heavy Goods Vehicle Driving (HGV);
Postbus (PSV);
VCS/MAA;
IMP/MTT;
Advanced TPM;
non-school training.

Thanks for the info on that one! The job is to be advertised next week and the new manager seems to think that its on interview only, but when our proper boss comes back ill see what he says. They will not mess me over on this one i promise lol i have been waiting nearly 9 years! Thanks for the doc terrier!
