Thou MUST Drive!!!

Anybody else been told by DOM and/or Union Rep, if you can drive, you will likely be placed on a driving job, even if you've signed for a HCT or indoor duty?
After 20 years of service, and with no wish to do a driving duty, especially after the drivers allowance has ceased, I think I have earned the choice.
Is this fair enough, or is this a continuation of the bullying that was suppose to end after the last dispute?

There are many variety of driving duties, vans or car derived vans are just mobile pouch boxes , use your head and the weight can be less than what you are carrying now , don't worry.

Not worried, just think I should have the right to sign for whatever type of job I like, without having my hand forced.
i'm well aware of the different types of driving duties. I just don't see why I should drive, if i'm not being paid for the responsibility.

You can't drive for Royal Mail until you've had a changeover test, for insurance purposes, so all you have to do is deliberately fail it.

But the OP is complaining about bullying colleagues into taking the test, which could continue until it's taken.
Why not fail the test initially, and end it there ?

Or perhaps the original post is from someone who has previously driven for RM but wishes they had the option not to under Park and Loop?
They still have the right not to drive but a non-driving duty may only be available to them in another DO.

I've already passed the test, as I have been on a driving duty before, but hated and, and have been on walks ever since.
My main complaint is the fact that i'm basically being told what type of duty to sign for and this is being endorsed by the CWU rep, due to the fact that there is a shortage of drivers in our DO and they've threw in a load of van share duties.

Not really, because with 20 years service, there are plenty of non driving options open to me. It's not like there are only driving duties left.

Just keep hitting the van, you'll soon get taken off driving then :-)

During transformation negotiations reps were told (as the question came up often) that no-body would be forced to drive, and alternative duties or non driver role would be found.

Then, as you say, came the pressure from lino's. We successfully defended the right to not drive by asking for original contracts that said nothing about driving role. Pressure WAS applied we saw it off, i read into that that you cant be made to if you dont want to.

Why would the rep be trying to push members into something they dont want, id ask if he has the right info, doms and linos will tell him anything.

Then just choose of and into what you want, im pretty sure you cant restrict choice in a re-pick, unless hour change or ring fenced duties.

In a previous revision in our DO, one of my collegues was threatened with transfer if they didnt drive. He caved in and just went on the duty, so the threat worked!
