Would a private company continue or even dream of inefficient practices such as P & L ?

Of course there will be lots of down sides to being in a private company, thats a given, but on a management side it surely could not be worse then the current lot.

I reckon we will get better and deliver earlier and more machine sorting mail. But we will be worse off in pay. I think we will do 3 walks between 2 people doing 4 days on one walk A and 2 days on other walk B for both of us and other person to do Walk C.

But no one knows until there is a privatision.

In all probability it would be largely the same management with just private parasites that are new. On the up side ;a six week strike would probably bankrupt the lot of them ; Then what? no postal delivery service at all ,ever . Like to see how that pans out

privatisation would mean greater job losses for both managers and workforce ,lots more work for less pay and no extra job security and more impotantly a much poorer service to the public

The reason this service is so crap at the moment,is to make privatisation look more appealing.

Privatisation (as in other industries) would mean job losses, cuts in services, and higher prices.
I think there would very quickly (within 12-18 months) be deliveries every other day, apart from city centres, and possibly weekly in remote areas. :dcfo :ncfo :vcfo

In the narrow view of your question I would answer - Yes its possible that the actual management of postal work could be done better than Royal Mail.

However, as has been pointed out anyone taking over would have to, even if for just a limited time, work with the current management structure and incumbents.

Would anyone dream of inefficient practices - How about Holland where they can have 3 posties delivering letters to the same address all in the name of competition. Or IIRC delivery duties to Garages (lock up not petrol type) and changing rooms to pass on to the Delivery Officers as TNT does. Or another one of taking an unsorted delivery to a private address and making a "piece rate" worker sort it out at home before they do their duty, this was also Holland.

That means they are not tied to revenue or volume.
The majority of those fixed costs are....us.
The plan is to get those fixed costs down to 40%.
Redundancies will not cut it,they are too expensive in the short term and you could argue that the network is already stretched to breaking point.
The only way to make those kind of savings is to drive down the wage bill...in a big way.

I agree with the driving down the wage bill, which we have seen for years by the dangling a carrot infront of us and before you know it, its too late and we moan about the wages we are receiving now compared to 5 years ago. I can see the delivery supplement disappearing if royal mail goes private.

Its kind of a paradox.. profits come from running a good service, yet the service will inevitably suffer in the chasing of profits.

More accurately, like all privitisation, it'd be good for the few people at the top and everyone else, customers, postman, sorters, will get screwed over in a big way.
