Hi chaps ...wondered if any of u guys can help a soul in a tiz....ive been offered a casual temp job over xmas in sorting office with angard ,, the pay is £5.95 hr
im due to go to another interview tomorrow for a factory job which is a permanant position which is also £5.95 hr (40 hr week) ,, the problem im having is there any chance i would be taking on full time with royal mail after the xmas contract runs out....i had a chat with my postie this morning and he said they do keep a few on after xmas ,, but advised me not to opt for deliveies as he said you will be sent out like packed donkey.....i really dont know what to DO if iam offered the factory job tomorrow.....(sorting office is plymouth) thanks for ur views and comments..

The main rate for workers aged 21 and over will increase to £6.08 in Oct 2011(National minimum wage),now that's out of the way,go for the other job 100%

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

For me it would be simple "take the 40 hrs" as you wont get that amount from RM. :sad:

Take the factory job mate, as I have been told FT contracts at the RM are hit and miss. PT maybe more likely, you could be offered, if thats what you want.

5 years ago I'd say take the RM job but now they don't give our decent contracts so i'd strongly suggest you take the factory job.

I would never do this job for 5.95 an hour (especially over Christmas), and certainly not on the basis that I might get kept on. Having said that, the wage is a fair bit better if you can find a way around applying through Angard, although I don't know if that is possible any more as far as Xmas temp positions are concerned.
