What will be the outcome?

Post by Eric Cantona »

My cousin in a Lancashire office rang me today very distressed saying he (like a idiot) left the keys in the van and open while delivering a packet in *********, his Manager seen him and when he got back to the office he suspended him. has anyone any idea what would or could happen to him? he has been there 20 years good sick record and good discipline record, any ideas....

Tell him to plead stress from problems at home, and it was a momentary lapse ion concentration on an otherwise perfect character, then tell him to report the Lino for leaving the office early on a Saturday.

Suspended him straight away? No fact finding? No counselling?
Obviously managers differ from area to area, but one of my lot got caught by the IB,van running, door open while delivering a packet,he was reported to management (after the IB had a word with him and took details at source)and as it was his 1st offence he got counselled.

Also if the manager saw him,why didn't he pull him up at the time, why wait, manager could of f****d it up there.
He's let the guy go on and finish his duty while knowing what happened, could be a silver lining.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

so your solutions is to tell him to lie about it?

yeah well hope you get caught yourself lying about something and get the sack, its half the problem with this company we got too many people taking the piss, tell the truth he will prob just get a warning, at most suspended dismissal if going by what you said about his record,

as a union we need to take the moral high ground and stay there, its in our best interests, i have absolutely no time for people making up stories to excuses them taking short cuts, yeah if he did have issues at home then i would 110% support the guy but suggesting he make it up is no on in my book

shame on you.

Was he on his own ? no witnesses, he did the kangaroo disciplinary procedure, if so , he will be ripped apart by the Union and tribunal if need be, Manager do this all the time, they got so bloated with self importance and is omnipotent, knows all the rules etc , that when they trip up and this usually help in all tribunals, they are their own worst enemy.

One colleague of mine was followed home by a Lino and he knocked on his door trying to catch him going home early, to which the Postie said "there is only you and me no witnesses, its your word against mine" and closed the door in face , took the wind out of his sails and it never went further :Very Happy

Something your mate could/should have done, taking the wind out of the Managers sails, pre-empting any action.

I genuinally admire your integrity and would allways follow your advice except with RM.....
Some thugs stole some equipment off me, I could have made up a story and got away scot free but told the truth, they tried to sack me and made my life a mysery for something trivial:mad :mad :no no :no no
You're not dealing on the whole with fair people here you're dealing with people who get rewarded for sacking loyal honest employees.....
My advice (though I'm ashamed to give it) if he has no witneses, lie through your backteeth, say the van was locked and not running.... Put a grievance in against the manager for lying about you and trying to discipline you by fabricating a story..... Your word against his, come an ET if he doesn't have a witness they will laugh at him.....Good Luck.......
