lost parcel

anyone now whats the policy on lost parcels there has been a parcel left in someones bin but they said they were on holiday and now the parcel has gone what will happen to the postie who done this. just wondered if he will be sacked.

It doesn't normally warrant dismissal but how far it goes will depend on a few things like previous record,training,management comms,mitigating circumstances like customer instructions...even what it was and it's value.
Obviously if it was plants or lightbulbs it's slightly easier to justify than if it was an ipad.
I take it there are no accusations of theft flying around?

no theft they said it went with bin me when they were on holiday and as far as i know the postie has no previous record at all no warnings or ad deliveries also is very rally sick 1 in last 12months just dont want to see colleges get sacked as there are not many jobs around

No it shouldn't mean dismissal.
It should mean a serious look in the mirror though.
Job and everything that goes with that on the line to save a couple of minutes and a p739...not smart at all.

I still don't understand why anyone in their right mind would think a bin is a safe place to leave things! I certainly wouldn't want my new (whatever) in the bin along with last nights left over dinner and the contents of my cat's litter tray, even if everything is bagged up. The mind boggles as to what these people are thinking

We've had this happen about four times in our office(four times it's ended in tears i should say) god knows how many people still do it! Of course you would think the penny would drop eventually but................as with many aspects of this job we're our own worst enemies!

No,but different managers interpret/apply rules in a very different way,in our office i could never imagine seeing someone sacked for this,but there's some very different managers to what we have out there. Having said that I'd still be very surprised if he lost his job over it,but if people keep doing this,it's got to happen eventually!

What about those customers who leave messages on their door saying 'leave parcels at x or y, or with x or y'.

They complicate the job. I feel a bit of an arse telling them I cannae do it.

Hate comments like that. I live in a shtty area, and the local hoodlums watch the delivery driver come up, see no one is home and put it in the bin, several times now, despite me calling them and telling them not to do it. As soon as driver is back in van, they are in my bin and nicking the stuff. Kinda resent your comment tbh
