who told you it was not proof? as fish advised you in another post, its only unacceptable if your using your birth certificate as proof of your right to work in the uk

surprise,surprise,its an E.U.directive so draw your own conclusions.

I'd been with my previous employer 4 years when this new directive came in, I produced my birth certificate- just a short one, 6 months later they said I needed to show a full birth cert or passport. My passport had expired so they wouldnt accept that, crazy because if I wasn't a uk citizen I wouldn't have had that passport in the first place!
I had to go and order a full birth cert which cost me 30 odd quid for an express service, I was one day away from being suspended!

Well it APPEARS that Johney Foreigner is trying to get into the UK and work illegally... dash bad show if you ask me! next they'll be trying to convince people that theres a camps full or 'em at Sangatte near Calais just waiting to nick all our jobs at the first sight of an open lorry door!
